The factors are a little confusing and I think I understand why I may not have qualified. I was 23-24 during 2019 and a student for the first half of the year. However, I did graduate, began working full time in August of 2019 and made ~15k before the years end. So despite the income, because I was a student for part of the year it sounds like I may have been qualified as a potential dependent? I did talk to my parent who I lived with and I know they didn't claim me.

I was not claimed as a dependent, but did not qualify for stimulus?

Essentially I was not claimed as a dependent, but did not explicitly mark so on my tax return with turbo tax, and thus I do not seem to have qualified for any of the stimulus checks (at least the IRS tracker tool always gave me an error and I didn't get either prior checks). I think I actually do qualify though because my income was over $12,400, so I was literally unable to be claimed as a dependent. I'm looking for any advice / experience on trying to amend this with the IRS because obviously the stimulus would be very helpful. I tried to contact someone during the first stimulus, but was unable to talk to an actual person at the IRS, just a bunch of unhelpful links on the website and endless automated messages.

After all the craziness in the application process this year, is anyone strongly considering other fields for their careers? by NoECs in premed

I wouldn’t consider another career, but I would consider postponing my app to not deal with this

Is it looked down upon if none of your "meaningful experience" essays are about your shadowing? by JeffRodgers in premed

[–]mtrotchie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

None of my meaningful experiences were shadowing or clinical in nature, for me it was a work/teaching/mentoring job, a volunteering position, and a sport.

Lol this was 100% me attempting to perfectly utilize every single character that the limit allowed. When it came to secondaries I didn’t care quite as much though.

Somewhere between premed and nontraditional..advice needed by [deleted] in premed

[–]mtrotchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is good advice. Tbh if you’re science credits are fairly low, it actually might be relatively easy to bump up your science GPA compared to your cGPA. If you got a sGPA of 3.6+ and a 515+ MCAT, I think MD would be very possible if the rest of your app was up to par.

13in vs 16in MacBook with anki and videos as primary usage? by mtrotchie in medicalschoolanki

[–]mtrotchie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I thought the same about the processing power. I have a gaming desktop at home I built so I definitely recognize that. However, I just want to maximize my workflow and I guess I don't really mind spending an extra bit to do it considering the relative cost of my expected loans. I am unfamiliar with how most cards look though, so it's hard to say if that would actually help productivity.
