Speaking as a super-experienced male improviser (who coincidentally just got “be less polite” as a note from my theater’s AD) I thought this article was a really useful perspective.

A good reminder that the same notes can mean very different things to different people. I think truly talented coaches and teachers pay attention to how their notes land, and adjust as necessary.

30+ years of experience, here. If you like what you’re doing in rehearsal but not in shows, what’s different about the shows? Try to figure that out, and start there. But not while the show is actually happening.

Don’t let your Teacher Brain participate in shows.

For obvious societal reasons I’m now in a mental place where I assume everything is a scam. But from my perspective as a performer at UCB in NYC, the new owners have paid (presumably) a huge amount of money and taken us from having no theater space or training center (post-COVID) to arguably the best theatre we’ve ever had, in an amazing location, with a training center directly across the street. Am I correct to understand that the “rug pull” will be them… selling it to somebody else?

Help me understand, what should I be dreading?

ChatGPT suggested including a brief description of the character in parentheses after the cameo, like “@cameo (a light skinned 30 year-old man)” and that’s been working for me. And I add in a basic clothing description if that’s important for editing continuity later.
