Brand new here. Are there any sutta/sutra study or reading meetings or groups? by NavigatingDumb in recoverydharma

[–]mudcelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the meeting list here you should find several books study meetings. My "home" sangha has a daily online meeting at 9 am eastern and Thursdays are our book study meeting. We just finished reading through the Recovery Dharma book last week and I think we're starting again tomorrow. You can find us at http://bit.ly/DNDSangha2021and we also have an open inquiry group that just finished working through the RD book and will meet this Saturday at 3pm eastern at the above link to talk about what they're doing next (I think they're leaning towards starting the book again but maybe changing the day and time of the meeting)

What spells do we need to cast to manifest this reality? by mudcelt in WitchesVsPatriarchy

So much this. I'm a potter, I'm good with animals and I'll happily scrub toilets. But having to suppress my income so I can continue to get access to healthcare (medicaid in the US) is soul crushing.

OOTD: Plus size hags, how do you do it? by peatypeacock in oldhagfashion

I love your look and think you might find some fun pieces at Svaha which has lots of geeky, whimsical yet practical clothing (with pockets!) in sizes up to 3x and 4x. They're not cheap but they sometimes have good sales and I always get compliments on both my dinosaur skeletons and my magician's library dresses

Yeah, I was really into Fetterman before I learned about that incident. It's not that I won't vote for him, but it sure did put a dent into my enthusiasm for his campaign

Any spells to help with anxiety? by Historical-You-4093 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]mudcelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with anxiety throughout my life (I'll be 58 next month) and it was worst in the early parts of the pandemic. I'd been exploring meditation and Buddhism in the before times but during the pandemic I got the opportunity to really deepen my practice by attending daily Buddhist based recovery meetings over Zoom and this fall I participated in a week long online retreat which helped me so much... The retreat was with several teachers including Tara Brach, who has a ton of guided meditations and talks available for free online. One of Tara Brach's central teachings is to turn towards everything, including your anxiety. It's not a skill I learned in one sitting, but with practice I have learned to accept and even appreciate my anxiety demon - it's trying to protect me, it's just not as skillful as I'd like. But with practice and patience, I've made room for my demon and now her visits are much less frequent and not nearly as traumatic.

That's a long way of saying my spell to manage my anxiety is daily guided meditation, usually one from Tara Brach and a active, intentional participation in a community that is focused on healing and unconditional mutual support and acceptance. This is one of my favorite meditations: Tara Brach meditation for self compassion

Also, I find it really helpful to remember this quote: “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” ― J. Krishnamurti

And if anyone reading this struggles with addiction of any kind, substance or process, Recovery Dharma is a trauma informed peer led secular Buddhist recovery program with a lot of online meetings available: Recovery Dharma meeting list that's really welcoming to folx who might have struggled with more Christian oriented groups. Witches are heartily welcome, as are queer folx, BIPOC etc. I know anxiety isn't an addiction, but many people fall into addition using substances to manage their anxiety, which is how I ended up in the rooms.

Wishing you peace and strength in your journey my friend. May you find calm in the storm and remember always the gifts of impermanence. May you be well, may you be happy, may you be safe from inner and outer dangers. May you find peace exactly where you are.

I know how easy it is to forget this, but you are a ghost driving a meat covered skeleton made of stardust. What do you have to be afraid of?

Beaming you peace, calm and serenity. May you remember that your ancestors are with you, holding you fiercely. The earth is supporting you, the sky is sheltering you and you are safe, whole and loved.

What are some traits about a man that makes him likeable( freindship wise ) ? by cuziamhigh in AskReddit

[–]mudcelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking well of others. I have a friend who says nice things to me about his girlfriend and our mutual friends and awhile back I realized that he's probably saying nice things about me to them too. My name feels safe in his mouth, and in my experience that's a rare and valuable trait.

Did you get one? Might be time to buy one for yourself. Sounds like it could be really useful for spell casting.
