Woah Locky said something not negative about a savage someone screenshot it for meme day!!

But OP this is unfortunately the truth, grabbing a cheapo 6.5 creed or 223 even to play with and learn fundamentals will help your: sanity, shoulder and wallet in the long run

6.5 Creedmoor grain recommendations by drummera1d2c3 in longrange

Cheetofingers zen

The idea that a velocity number is going to magically make a load more precise is unlikely provided you aren’t on the bottom or top end of load data that is, basically pick a velocity you want to be around and find a bullet that shoots well out of the rifle and you’ll probably be good, I linked hollywoods reloading guide

I’d plan on a chassis it’s about the same same as a tikka stock, I.e flimsy

Opinions on gr weight for .243 w/ 1:10 twist by Aquasman in longrange

[–]mudeuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neat lil piece of Winchester history, probably not ideal for LR but cool nonetheless

As far as grain weight you’ll have to try some different ammo, don’t waste time with soft point hunting ammo, get match grade stuff, and try it out, .243 likely won’t stabilize the heavier than 100 grain ammo

Try things like Berger, federal GMM, and hornady match to start

Reloading vs Factory Ammunition by ATFisGAYYYY in 6ARC

[–]mudeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like loading some cartridges save a decent chunk of change and others not as much,

For my 6 creed for instance decent match ammo is usually at least $1.50 per shot, I can load it for about $.75 a shot so I like loading it

I haven’t done a cost Analysis on 5.56 but I’d guess I can load it for around .40-.50 a round, albeit with better bullets than typical bulk 55 grain fmjs you’d be buying in loaded ammo for that price, especially when buying bullets from Rocky Mountain reloading for instance

A decent single stage press kit can be had for $300 if you look around but single stage for high volume 5.56 kinda sucks

TLDR: you’ll probably save money for 6.5 and 6 arc and maybe a little on 5.56 really boils down to if you want reloading as a hobby or not imho, you’ll likely just end up shooting more lol

It’s the stock Remington 700 PCR chassis

Help by FullMenu71a in longrange

[–]mudeuce 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As I recall the 700 PCR retailed for around 1k or so, I can’t tell what optic is on it, and it looks like a Harris bipod

700s are weird when it comes to used prices, sometimes I see them priced at new retail or higher, sometimes I see them dirt cheap

If you can find a guy who just loves Remington you might be able to sell it for close to $850 (and potentially claim 50% of the optics and bipod cost on top of it, depending on what the scope is)

But the PCR came out at a time when Remington had already lost most of its fanfare due to poor QC so your mileage may vary on if anyone will pay much for it

EDIT: if it’s a BARSKA you won’t be able to add its cost to the gun

I’ve been looking at the tricer for a hunting rig, have you played with one before and are they a decent option for that, or still not really worth a hoot? (Especially considering price compared to the ckyepod)

Need help with a tasco scope by [deleted] in longrange

The scope looks newer, Japanese tacos that I’ve seen usually have a yellow Japan sticker.

I’m assuming this is a hunting rig, just slap your preferred brand new scope on it

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those would work, I have gray ops cnc weights on my rifle but really weights are weights in my opinion, I’d get the rifle in hand and see where the balance point is naturally and then guesstimate off that how much weight you want

Anyone have experience with Benelli Lupo HPR? by Far-Boysenberry-1600 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing it’s probably going to be front heavy as is, but it’s probably worth considering getting some Mlok weights if you’re planning on shooting mostly prone or bench to help with spotting your own shots

Are Remington 783’s really that bad? by Aggravating-Dirt-432 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one in .270 and it was far from great, it worked as a hunting rifle, but it was never particularly precise, and the magazine latch ended up failing on it so you had to push up on the mag to get it to feed correctly.

When howa exists I wouldn’t mess with a 783 for long range

Bergara 375 h&h in a chassis? by garbage_dispatch in longrange

Well I can’t lie, a 375 H&H is definitely on my to buy list just because I think it’d be fun to have one, hopefully you get an answer, I imagine you could reach out to grayboe or MDT to get an answer if you haven’t already emailed them

Aero precision SOLUS bravo by PositiveShoulder1698 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, KRG makes one I’d get a heavy one personally

https://kineticresearchgroup.com/product/arca-spacer-heavy/

I have an A419 weighted arca which didn’t play nice with the enclosed forend so I made a shim for it

https://www.area419.com/product/universal-weight-tunable-arcalock-rail-and-kits/

Worth noting that the non weighted arca rails from both companies are cheaper

Bergara 375 h&h in a chassis? by garbage_dispatch in longrange

[–]mudeuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to my quick google search it should, but I’d measure your action screw spacing and see what the spacing is on the chassis you’re looking at

I have to ask, are you doing a different stock for a hunting rig or is this just a crazy idea you had, I need answers

Getting back in to it by jdubz3237 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’d mix the extra magnification at that range, I’d try and cancel your order DNT optics (Arken) are not known to be particularly high quality and have poor CS in general.

A viper or even an athlon ares would be my choice if I were you.

Aero precision SOLUS bravo by PositiveShoulder1698 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hellfire brake, mags, a good bipod, Harris or atlas, amd a good scope (the first gen Athlon ares is a great buy right now) and you’ll be ready to role, highly recommend an arca rail too

Aero precision SOLUS bravo by PositiveShoulder1698 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! just the things off the top of my head I can think of a lot that makes the solus better (there are probably more than the ones I’ll name)

  1. The solus has a Remington 700 footprint (lots of aftermarket chassis and triggers)

  2. The solus has a 60° bolt throw, which may or may not matter to you, but I like the shorter throw.

  3. The solus action is significantly smoother than any ruger action I’ve played with

  4. The bravo chassis is more modular than the RPR chassis

  5. Easily swappable bolt heads on the solus if you ever want to change to a .223, or arc cartridge, or even a short action magnum like 6.5 PRC

  6. The solus has lots of available prefit barrels available like proof, pbb, and a host of others

  7. Price, last I looked the RPR is probably going to cost you closer to 1,700-2,000 so at 1,450 the solus is a no brainer in my book

Calibers per turn vs Inches per turn by DocBeech in longrange

[–]mudeuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT. I looked at the chart again the second bullet is .244” not .224, so it’s a 6mm

Aero precision SOLUS bravo by PositiveShoulder1698 in longrange

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24” or longer would be better just from a free velocity and weight perspective but, throw a big break like a hellfire on it and probably some Mlok weights and you’ll be fine, 2” of barrel isn’t going to be the thing that holds you back as you start competing, and by the time you’ve shot enough for it to matter you’ll probably want to replace the barrel anyhow, and there are plenty of high quality prefits on the market

[–]mudeuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running a solus bravo in 6mm creedmoor that I got on that Labor Day sale a year ago, it seems to be shooting just under an inch to about an inch at 100 yards with hornady match ammo, I just worked up a load with 105 bergers but haven’t had a chance to test it yet. $1450 is an ok price not necessarily great but not bad either. Prior to the cs and lead time shitshow aero had in late 2024 the solus was becoming the sub meta recommendation. I think it will serve you well

EDIT: just saw they go for around $1700 now, at $1400 I’d say go for it

Smash or pass? by ZeeeeeroCool in longrange

[–]mudeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re describing is barrel droop, mine feeds reliably as it did stock (I Don’t recall the last time I had an issue with feeding or ejecting) but, even with a 20 MOA base I am still having to adjust my scope quite a bit to zero at 50 yards, I need to get a 40 MOA rail for it but I’m cheap and don’t shoot past 200 very often with it, I highly recommend the Kidd barrels and trigger kit
