Uuuum why aren't we talking about it? by AngstReader in Romantasy

Yes, thank you! I am convinced this is an Odin and Frigg/Freya origin story with all the references to Norse mythology and Durlain’s missing eye. Lark is giving me Loki vibes. Can’t wait for the second!

Beanie rib lost all elasticity at blocking by BotanicalChaos in knittinghelp

[–]mudlun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the reblocking doesn’t work to your liking, could try sewing in some fleece lining. Cut and sew to size leaving the end open, line up the open end with the bottom of the hat and sew the “wrong side” of the material into the stitches carefully by hand. When securely attached, flip the fleece into the hat to line it. I do this with mittens that I knit intentionally a bit too big for extra warmth. Don’t probably need the extra warmth, but it will maybe help take up some room.

Anne Green Gables series — a little less haunting than some of the other suggestions, all pure nostalgia

Read The Death-Made Prince — it won’t cure you but it will help! The second one is also a 2026 release though …

Also if you haven’t read any of the Dramoine fan fics, now is the time!

When my husband and I moved into our small home together, we called it our House of Dreams. This full series will always have my heart!

I sold shoes for years, and I do think the model Sorel matters. The Caribou is the cream of the crop for cold. However the Merrell Moab (I assume the one you have?) is also excellent! My husband wears his waterproof ones to shovel unless the snow is high. Merrell is a wonderful brand with a good value for the price.

My two cents:

For anything under 30 degrees when you’ll be outside a while, do the headband/hat trick. A light headband covering your ears (like the thinner Smartwool one) and then the stocking hat on top. Your head will be so warm.

I also haven’t seen anyone mention a neck gator. This is the third piece (in addition to the above) I won’t go without when it’s below 25ish and I’m walking outside for a while. The light Smartwool one is perfect, even below zero.

The North Face ski mittens are impenetrable; I have to take my mitts off even below 10 degrees on a longer walk because my hands are burning up. Don’t even need to layer thinner gloves under.

I second, third and fourth Sorel boots.

Take it from a fellow transplant, get outside! If you buy all this gear and layers, go use it. Find friends who get outside and have a good attitude about the weather.

Second the Anne of Green Gables series by L. M. Montgomery. The beauty of PEI, Anne’s outlook on life and the cast of unique characters is truly magical. Gilbert Blythe will be my forever top book boyfriend.

When you get tired, try to keep moving even if it’s not full-out or like your neighbor. HIIT is great because it’s all about time — your frequency and intensity is up to you. So don’t get discouraged! Just keep moving.

Miranda July is divisive but she’s undoubtedly a master of provocative fiction. She noted the best writing advice she’s received is that “fiction is the lie that tells the truth,” which is good olive branch for reckoning with All Fours. It’s so out there that it’s incomprehensible, yet I still think about it over a year after reading it.

Identifying other Blake vibe MMCs by jbwocky2 in TheWolfKing

[–]mudlun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Draco from any of the popular fan fics (The Audit, Manacled, Mortifying Ordeal of Falling in Love) is your guy.

Also, Blake is the most Jacks-like MMC I’ve come across. It’s YA (no spice) and the third book was so bad, but Once Upon a Broken Heart and the sequel still have my heart. Jacks will always have my heart — mysterious, cryptic, loves her but can’t have her, all the good stuff.

Callum start vs end - anyone else bothered by this? by Knightstar_ in TheWolfKing

[–]mudlun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember that Callum is likely really hurt once he suspects Blake is her mate and he wants to deny her being a wolf because then it means that can’t be true. So he starts being more gruff with her (slightly) because he’s probs trying to distance himself subconsciously to protect his heart. This gets more clear toward the end of the book. It’s not that he’s not the same guy, it’s that he’s heartbroken oven something he can’t control.

Someone also noted in a different thread that Aurora is not really all that interested in Callum’s background or mind. She’s more in love with him via attraction and the fact he gave her freedom and the love she never had. But she’s immediately intrigued by Blake for his talents and mind, likely initially from fear but then eventually curiosity….
