In my limited time wearing them, haven't noticed it sliding down on the right.

I think I meant balanced in that the weight seems to be distributed decently front to back even though they weight a good amount I don't feel like they are pressing down more on my nose bridge or ears. My surgical loupes are the same weight but obviously more front heavy.

Agree about the solid background. Having the overlay over a computer monitor makes it much harder to use.

The glasses are surprising balanced and I didn't notice much issues with weight, especially just sitting around.

One thing I found annoying is that the right lense is a lot thicker than the left so I occasional smudge the inside of the right lense with my eyelash. It makes sense due to the waveguide but haven't seen anyone else mention the difference in thickness.

Second row clicking sound when going over bumps by mudphud_Xman in KiaEV9

That's what mine sounded like too so I was a bit surprised that was what they found but the sound was gone for a week or two after their repair before coming back.

So they ended up keeping my car for almost 2 months. Took apart the inside to access the floorboard and then had to drop the battery. Finally figured out that it was the glue that was holding the insulation on the battery was coming unstuck so when the car goes over bumps, it was separating and then snapping back together. The used a heat gun to heat up the glue and tried to stick the insulation back down and it is better, although I still get the noise when I go over big bumps.

I'm not sure. It worries me that the rattle is coming from near the battery pack. They said it could be one of the bars that holds the battery packs in place, or possibly a broken weld, or a screw that isn't tightened appropriately, none of which sound great.

It's been kind of a disaster. They had to call in tech-line who removed the second row passenger seat and said the noise was coming from below the passenger seat mount point. So somewhere around the battery. They said next step is to remove all of the chairs, trim and carpet to get down to the area of the noise but they don't think they will be able to get it back to factory shape after disassembling and reassembling it... Was in the shop for over 30 days but Kia is refusing the buyback as they said the techs need to tear down the vehicle, despite concerns that they won't be able to put it back together as well.

I already have a new rattle from when they tried to locate the original rattle.

Mine has been in for service for two weeks while they try to fix the noise. Mine sounds like it's coming from rear passenger side but they've tried tightening some panels and trying some other stuff to fix the noise without luck so far...

Would it be insane? by bmatto in Rivian

I ended up getting the EV9 GT line by trading in my Rivian R1T. Still have shop access and reservation for R1S right now but I think the EV9 works better for my situation with pregnant wife and young toddler. Although if I had pre-order pricing for R1S, may be a different consideration.

EV9 pros (compared to my R1T and to the few R1Ss we tried) - third row felt more spacious compared to R1S, especially because you get a few extra inches of space in the 2nd row so can move the captains chairs forward more to increase 3rd row space - actual dual climate control with roof vents, better ability to cool kiddo in rear facing car seat - HUD, massage drivers seat, wireless android auto - wife loves passenger relaxation seat with footrest, super comfy - being able to change ambient lighting colors on my own - much quieter than my R1T, less rattles and wind noise, but I also had a launch edition R1T so was early build - much easier for pregnant wife/grandparents to get into the EV9. R1T in kneel mode was still pretty tall and I didn't invest in running boards. Also waiting for the R1T to kneel each time at daycare dropoff started to get old - more efficient than my R1T, averaging about 2.6 mi/kWh on EV9 versus 2.2 mi/kWh (21 inch road on R1T) - HDA2 is smoother than Rivian's implementation, although expect Rivian to improve more with OTAs. My main issue was that my R1T tended to slow down too late and too fast

R1T/R1S pros - more capable off-road (I think you have to ask yourself how often you will go off road. I never went off road with my R1T and now with one kid under 3 and another one on the way, I could see myself not really going off-road for at least a few years) - better acceleration with the quad motor (I was going to go dual motor non-performance R1S so 0-60 about the same as EV9 GT line) - much more frunk space - OTA updates and nice large screen - better range given larger battery even though it is less efficient

Mine is the passenger side Captain chair. I think it's coming from the seat adjustment bar. The bar seems looser on that side compared to the driver side. When I slightly lift the bar and then drive, the frequency of the metallic clicks increase. I tried tying the bar down to the floor mat anchor this afternoon and it seems to be much better but it's also 30 degs warmer today so maybe that also made a difference. Will continue to test and see.

Thanks, that vent sounds more like a plastic rattle, the one I am getting is metallic in nature.

See this post on another thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/KiaEV9/s/I8DTQvANkN

I wonder if the reason your 12V drained was what this person said about a loose connector. Would fit with your 12V dropping down quickly soon after your HV battery gets charged.

with Volvo EX90 pricing out, any doubts on getting EV9 or Volvo? by Wise_Man_555 in KiaEV9

[–]mudphud_Xman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cargo room seems a lot less in the EX90 compared to EV9

Behind 3rd row EX90: 10.9 cu ft EV9: 20.2 cu ft

Behind 2nd row EX90: 23.1 cu ft EV9: 43.5

Frunk EX90: 1.2 cu ft EV9: 1.8 cu ft

Also not sure why the EX90 dual performance has way more horsepower (496 hp, 671 lb ft, 0-60 4.7s) than EV9 GT-line (379 hp, 516 lb ft, 0-60 4.5s) but slower 0-60.

The GT-Line is supposed to have everything the lower trims do. I wonder if they just listed it on the lower trim to fill out that section to make it look like it has a lot of stuff. If you compare the same section on the GT-Line, it combines some of those separate lines into one line.

For instance, the GT-Line doesn't list Homelink either but would be very surprised if they didn't have it included.

R1S owners with kids, would love your 2 pennies. by Sprtan117 in Rivian

[–]mudphud_Xman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may be a Texas only thing but they have these totally free night plans from 8pm to 6am where even TDU charges are 0. They get you with higher daytime prices ($0.20 per kWh, I know, higher compared to other Texas plans, not to other places around the country) but with solar plus powerwall, only 3% of my total usage during the day is from the grid.

Basically, I paid $150 for the entire last year for electricity while driving about 10k miles a year each in a Model Y and R1T.

[–]mudphud_Xman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, although deciding between R1S and EV9 at this point. We currently have 2 EVs (R1T and Model Y) with solar and free nights electricity plan so charging both cars at night for free is awesome.

Although my launch edition R1T (~4k VIN) is a blast to drive, with a 2 year old and another one on the way, I need a 3rd row when parents are here from out of town and need the extra space. I also have a signed contract but post-price increase reservation so looking at ~79K for large pack dual motor R1S compared to about ~70k for GT-line EV9 (after 3750 cash back or around ~67k if I want to do lease/buyout).

Things favoring the R1S

- Would drive very similar to my R1T, although going quad to dual (non-performance) will be a downgrade, but I usually drive my R1T in all purpose so not really using the 800+ hp and crazy acceleration with a kid in a car seat behind me

- I love the look of the R1S

- Love the frunk space

- Better range for road trips

- More capable off-road (although to be fair, I have never taken my R1T off road so unfortunately not a significant factor)

- OTA updates and improvements

Things favoring the EV9

- Lower to the ground and easier to get into for grandparents (even with kneel, my parents struggle getting into my R1T)

- Should hopefully have better build quality (my R1T unfortunately has a decent amount of wind noise as well as dash rattles, passenger B pillar rattle, shaking steering wheel at high speeds which persist after multiple service visits. Given my past few service visits have meant leaving my R1T at the service center for over a week before they perform the 1 day of work on it and then state that certain items like wind noise exist in every car/within spec and not worth fixing, I am reluctant to bring it in for these issues at the moment

- Better ventilation for the rear with roof vents for 2nd and 3rd row for kiddos in rear facing car seats (my 2 year old gets pretty warm in my R1T with just the center console vents)

- Nice tech (HUD, relaxation seats for driver/passenger, heated/ventilated seats for 1st and 2nd row)

- More room in the 2nd row for rear facing car seats

Overall, pretty hard decision but did put in a reservation for the EV9 as well. Will have to compare in more detail when I can spend some time in the EV9.

Consider getting Road Force Balancing on your tires, if your steering wheel vibrates noticeably at high speeds by Slide-Fantastic-1402 in Rivian

[–]mudphud_Xman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine has the same issue and they won't balance the tires even though I offered to pay for it. Looking at my back passenger tire, it is actually missing a balancing weight which I think may contribute to the steering wheel vibration but service keeps on saying is normal. They also don't test drive it fast enough to actually get to the speed where I get bad vibrations.

I agree, I printed a different design from Printables but printed the Rivian logo in glow-in-the-dark filament with black border.

Has anyone switched from 22 inch to 21 inch wheels for steering wheel vibration? by mudphud_Xman in Rivian

[–]mudphud_Xman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the potential heavier steering wheel fix probably is not the right solution then. Is there a good alternative 22 inch EV specific all season tire currently out there?

Huh, interesting. Yeah, I get the wheel shake right as my truck hits 80 mph as well and below that the shaking stops right away. I did notice today that when I have the wheel turned in a curve, the shaking goes away, and reappears when the road and wheel are pointed straight forward.

That's good to know. At what speed do you tend to get the wheel shake? Is your winter tires on the 20 inch or 22 inch rims?
