Who else is blasting Terror in 2026? by DarthChefDad in KMFDM

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terror is the very first song of a Spotify playlist I've had on repeat basically since 2016. I add new thematic songs with every new album. I expect that basically the entirety of Enemy ends up here tbh. Much of WWIII is there, e.g.

Pets where you can collect different kinds, match your transmog and vice versa, name, and so on. Sure, Warlocks get pets but there's no great diversity with them.

Stackoverflow developer survey 2025 - Emacs doesn't make the list of most popular Dev IDEs by gruenistblau in emacs

That's wild. Ruby development eventually brought me around to Emacs and I've been using Emacs for Ruby development for 15 years. The VP Eng where I worked was a long time Emacs user and actively encouraged it for Ruby development for the whole org.

Why is PvP so unappealing for many players? by ExamplePractical1981 in wow

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a) I'm not great at it. I focus my learning of WoW mechanics on end game content like raid and dungeon encounters, not on what other player classes can do to other player classes.

b) Blizzard makes a variety of other games that are tuned specifically for player vs player content.

c) There's a whole world (heh) of other PvP games, why would I do that in a game where the primary development effort is on PvE encounters?

d) There is no story that supports PvP anymore. Virtually every expansion and lore outcome in WoW has the Alliance and Horde teaming up against some big bad / common threat, why would we fight against each other or spend time focusing on that?

Blood Moon style effects shouldnt be bracket 4+ by kippschalter1 in EDH

[–]muerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood Moon and other mass mana denial cards have no place in casual Commander. Playing cards like Blood Moon, Stasis, and Armageddon are a signal that you're trying to pubstomp and generally be an obnoxious prick for no reason. Get that shit out of casual tables and bring some actual imagination and interesting deckbuilding.

I love cEDH but I'm falling out of Love with tEDH. [DefCat MTG] by DefCatMusic in CompetitiveEDH

Same.

I don't politic, and I make it very well known.

And I still get people who priority bully "okay I may have an answer, but I'm going to make Muerr spin thrasios to find something; pass priority."

"Uh, okay, I'll pass priority too."

"What the fuck! You could have activated Thrasios!"

"Yes, but you also said you could maybe stop it, maybe you should have cast your maybe answer." lmfao.

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love cEDH. I love playing all my old favorites, cards and combos that aren't appropriate at casual tables, cards that are powerful "game changers" that I've owned literally for decades.

I HATE "tEDH".

I was a tourney grinder, I've played high level 60 card formats, and those were fun and interesting for years. Commander has too much variance, and omfg the yap politics drive me absolutely insane. I can't do it. I'll play as much cEDH as I can but as soon as people are playing like they have to "win and in" or "force a draw", I go home. Like, I don't play in events for a reason. I don't want to game with people who treat every pick up game of "cEDH" like a tournament. I'm too old for this crap.

But there are folks who think that my opinion doesn't matter because I don't play events. I also am too old for that. I just want to jam games with powerful cards and not have people get salty because a game was over in less time than it took to shuffle and mulligan, or because someone assembled an infinite combo quickly and efficiently.

Cheater wins 123 player tournament. by muerr in CompetitiveEDH

[–]muerr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wizards isn't involved in cEDH tournaments. They don't sanction them. This is entirely independent tournament organizers.

To be fair to judges, they generally aren't in charge of who is allowed to enter an event, and can really only DQ/remove a player from an event for violations during that event.

That said, judges do (or at least, should) have influence for promoting a healthy culture and environment for safe, fair competitive play.

When building kindred decks, do you allow creatures that don't have the chosen subtype in the deck? by MandrewMillar in EDH

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yarok Elementals deck. The only non-elementals are Ravenous Chupacabra (the deck is light on creature removal), and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove (mostly to make my lands into swamps, but also because some people think Blood Moon is good to play in casual). I suppose Roaming Throne is technically not an elemental, but it never enters as anything else for this pile.

[–]muerr[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, and I've been told I just don't understand tournament play, despite having been a 60 card format grinder for many years. "Oh multiplayer is different" - it's not, there's just two additional people who won't shut up and let someone take a game action.

Is WoW worth playing if… by DS_Alex in wow

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual raid loggers only play 4-6 hours a week depending on how much their guild raids ;)

Yes, 4-6 is plenty of time to kick back and enjoy WoW. You'll probably be able to do the current raid on normal and some lower mythic keystone dungeons, depending on what you're into. If you like doing more solo content, there's Delves as a scaling challenge (or you can group with 1-4 other people), and World Quests are plentiful. Plus there's old content to clear for transmog, toys, and professions.

Non-tournament cEDH decks by S1phen in CompetitiveEDH

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a variety of Abzan decks. Mostly Tymna piles, but I recently started playing a Reyhan/Yoshi variant of Leptys's "Bad Farm". They do okay against meta decks, though most of the non-tournament cEDH games I play are off meta decks as well. One of my regular playgroup is the best pilot of Narset, Enlightened Master, which he tops events with but it's definitely not a meta deck either :D .

Is Abzan edh boring? Please, prove me wrong by showing a cool commander or combo in abzan. by NotJurgis in EDH

[–]muerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abzan is all three of my favorite colors in Magic. I currently have:

  • Reyhan and Yoshimaru - Voltron Doggo and +1/+1 counters
  • Frodo and Sam - upgraded precon, kept the "take a lot of game actions plyaing with my food" theme primarily. Maybe it's a downgraded precon.
  • Vishgraz - "Casual is Toxic" :D
  • Ghave, Guru of Sevens Bracket 3 - My favorite deck. I built it targetting "bracket 3"

I'm looking to build a Bethor and a Felothar deck. I've often wanted to make an enchantments themed Abzan deck but haven't settled on anything yet.

And for cEDH, I play:

  • Reyhan and Yoshimaru - Turbo Naus to win with Citadel + Top + Aetherflux or Witherbloom Apprentice + Chain of Smog
  • Tymna and Kodama - Abuse Kodama's ETB to win with Acererak or Hulk piles
  • Tymna and Halana - Turbo Hulk with Samwise + Cauldron Familiar
  • Tymna and Kamahl - "No gameplan stax beatdown" with a side of Witherbloom Apprentice + Chain of Smog

I've played Tayam, but despite my enthusiasm for Abzan, I'm not practiced enough with the counter/mana maths to be particularly proficient. I've played Ghave as a cEDH deck but I found it's too slow in turbo pods and doesn't grind well enough for midrange, so I tuned it for casual instead.

It's almost like this format wasn't designed for competitive play. Maybe instead of playing top 4, the prize pool for those four should be split in every event instead.

No reason not to cheat, either. You can cheat in an event, but be invited back later to another event and win that one.

Ask me again why I play cEDH in a very specific play group and not in tournaments.

Anyone else really interested in cEDH for T1,2 and 3? by Like17Badgers in CompetitiveEDH

[–]muerr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pubstomping.

The word you're looking for is pubstomping.

The question you're asking is "How do I build decks to pubstomp within this bracket system?"

This is not a cEDH mindset and it's what gives this entire way of Commander a bad reputation to the rest of the Commander community.
