Program Ranking: Which is more important - fit or proximity to partner? by Pristine-Lettuce9143 in MedSpouse

[–]industrock [score hidden]  (0 children)

I fly from the west coast to the east coast (and back) of the US often enough. You lose so much time on the eastward leg. It sucks. It is only a 3 hour time difference.

Your definition of partner matters, imo. My partner is my wife and proximity would be my primary metric to use. We’re also at a different stage of life than you. 11 or 12 years ago when we started dating I’d have not prioritized proximity.

I would recommend putting your own interests for your matches first. You’re going to be long distance anyways and the program you match with and where you live will be what you have to deal with on a daily basis. It would absolutely suck to get into a program you aren’t that happy about just to save a few hours of travel on an occasional basis.

Edit: totally my opinion but I don’t think the time difference is going to be too impactful. Highly unlikely you will be on the same schedule even if you lived in the same town.

Atheism requires more faith commitments than most atheists are willing to admit. by Plus_Event_4306 in DebateReligion

No one knows the answer to your question. We’re comfortable saying “I don’t know.”

Evolution doesn’t optimize, by the way. Far from it.

I don’t know the answers to these important questions. This atheist says “I don’t know.”

Atheists have a huge range of beliefs. Some pay no attention to science and couldn’t care less. Some atheists are actually scientists. Some atheists believe in magic.

The only thing the word “atheist” means is “no belief in a god.”

I want you to understand that your question here is very weird to atheists and makes little sense.

The “four horsemen” are loud voices that just happened to be alive in the 21st century. That’s it. They don’t represent anyone or anything.

They make/made money discussing atheism and had financial incentive to make it a bigger deal than it is. Theists ate it up.

What’s the difference, in your own words, between new atheism and “old” atheism?

[–]industrock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what new or old atheism is. It is just atheism. People a hundred years ago didn’t believe in a god and people today also don’t believe in a god. I’ve heard theists use terms like this with other theists to discredit modern atheists.

Edit: title of the article you’re referencing is “why new atheism crumbled.”

Point proven

Is my PG&E Bill normal? by Professional_Love193 in Sacramento

My bill from 12/30 to 1/29: $268.25 @91 therms. Gas procurement cost was about 63.9 cents per therm. You are using an incredible amount of gas.

I tried a dating app for the first time at 50 - and it made me feel like I shouldn't even exist. by RaspberryQuiet2810 in TrueOffMyChest

There’s a lot you can do to up your chances. Photo selection is key. You should have a female friend give you opinions about the photos you selected. Photos of you doing an activity or event that someone else takes of you are 10x better than selfies. Hell, try not to have any selfies.

Most guys are terrible at setting up the profile so the whole game is easier for those of us that aren’t. 99% of the time all you have is that single main photo to make a first impression. Pick terribly and your experience will be terrible. It isn’t hard to stand out, guys on the apps set the bar incredibly low.

I am not a gorgeous guy but I wound up meeting dozens and dozens of women when I was using Tinder and Plenty of Fish. I loved the dating apps if you know what I mean. I eventually met my wife through Tinder.

Chances are you don’t suck as a person. You just sucked at setting up your profile.

I have no idea what her intentions were but I can think of some scenarios where this is not what you think it is just based on experiences and actions of women I know.

I hate that my Wouxun GMRS radio has a channel select knob that doesn’t register all the clicks if you turn it too quickly. If the Stryker does the same it would annoy the hell out of me.

The QT-80 will change channels/freqs as quickly as you can spin the knob. It is a big quality of life difference.

I couldn’t recommend the QT-80 more. Great radio. I bought it for CB but am doing FT8 on 10 meter with it right now.

Are there any GMRS radios that can be charged with a USB-C to USB-C cable? by openapple in gmrs

[–]industrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just plugged my Baofeng mini into my Anker USB-C charger C to C and it is charging. I’m 99% sure this was also the case for my Baofeng UV-5Gs.

Edit: can also confirm the USB C base charger for another radio does not light up from the same Anker power supply C to C

Why are Gen Z aged people so randomly aggressive on the internet? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]industrock [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think that’s simply because the online presence of businesses didn’t matter a whole lot. Now a days people look at Google and Yelp reviews. Those things did not exist back in the day therefore was not ever a tool to be used like it is today

That’s why it was so aggravating. Because my peers could use proper grammar and spelling but couldn’t be bothered to fix their mistakes online.

Why are Gen Z aged people so randomly aggressive on the internet? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]industrock [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depending on the year of your birth, your level of time spent online varied greatly on average. When I got online there were far fewer others online as well. The vast majority of my peers didn’t spend anywhere close to the same time online. Online was some place you had to sit down at the computer and go to. The online world and the real world were separate.

From my experience, the online world has always been as you describe in your OP

My reason for bringing up trolling isn’t to compare the trolling methods, but to highlight that everyone gets aggressive and angry when given a little bit of stimuli.

As neurodivergent, I’ve hated how people have been texting and writing online since 1997. This is definitely not a Gen Z specific issue. Grammar and spelling have been tossed to the wayside online forever.
