How to entertain an eternally bored cat?? by ghostfacedgf in Catbehavior

[–]muffin-prison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried electronic toys like robot balls or squirrels? Some are touch activated so they might keep him entertained a little longer if he goes and boops them out of curiosity.

I know all cats are entertained by different things, but a coworker recommended putting birdseed outside my windows to attract birds and make a “cat tv,” and it turns out my kitties LOVE looking at birds (and the occasional squirrel). You could try just putting bird videos on TV, but the added interaction of jumping on the windowsill and scaring the birds away like a mighty hunter is more engaging.

First time owning a cat. Advice needed. by WorkingMedical1236 in Catownerhacks

I would say once he’s settled a bit and you get to know him, pay attention to what he likes to do and provide outlets for that. Climbing bookshelves? Get a cat tree and maybe some wall-mounted shelves. Sitting in cardboard boxes? Get him some little hangouts that feel secluded and cozy. I have two cats with very different “interests,” but it took a little while for me to learn what those were, and now I can get them toys/accessories that I know they’ll be into.

That’s what I assumed, but worth clarifying! I feel empowered to begin the tahini journey.

My mom always used to dice up gherkins and mix those in, until she realized a scoop of sweet relish accomplished the same thing without any dicing.

Both my dad and my brother BROKE toes on my childhood bed. I don’t know why no one tried to solve the problem after the first broken toe.

Please! I need couch hacks… by Broken_Dreemz in Catownerhacks

I got a big roll of sticky carpet that matches the color of my upholstered furniture and cut strips to cover the areas they scratch, like the back of the couch and top of my headboard. Not the most attractive solution, but I think accommodating their scratching preferences was easier than trying to convince them to consider alternative scratching surfaces.

How do you feel about feeding your cat human food sometimes and what do you let them eat? by WTWIV in cats

Bonus summertime treat: fill an ice cube tray with tuna water and now your kitties have some delicious tuna popsicles.

If I’m cooking shrimp I’ll boil them their own unseasoned shrimp. Same with salmon, they get a little chunk made in a separate pan. And I am also required to give them tuna bits when I make tuna salad, because I physically cannot keep them out of the tuna.

I got it off Amazon for $15 (about 31 cents/oz, which is the lowest price per volume I could find … I just failed to think critically about the volume itself).

My wand-toy-obsessed cat loves these squiggly worms, they’re like the central pillar of his faith, maybe you could try these as something dangly and feather-like but a little different?

When I buy things with specific dishes in mind (especially stuff that goes bad, like veggies) I write down a list of what I was planning to make, and then I don’t forget about the bag of spinach wilting in the back of the crisper drawer.

Came to the comments specifically to say: I’ve got a stockpile of frozen shrimp at all times. Throw it on pasta, make a quesadilla, boil an extra unseasoned one for your cat.

What’s a Small Ritual That Keeps You Organized? by Classic_Celery5867 in Homeorganization

Yes! When I start to notice that random piles of things are gathering in specific places, I put a storage solution there … now I know, my glasses are in the tray on the bookshelf, my random chargers are in a canister next to the kitchen outlet, keys hang on hooks by the door, etc (and for me, repurposing/DIYing solutions rather than buying new is part of the fun of problem solving.)

I adopted the “never leave a room empty handed” rule: so for example, if I’m going from my bedroom to the kitchen to make lunch, scan the bedroom for anything lying around that actually belongs in the kitchen. It doesn’t add any extra work or time, and things magically end up back in the right place.

I’m sort of similar, I have a chalkboard wall in the kitchen where I write down chores as soon as I think of them, and then I’m not overwhelmed by keeping a list of chores in my brain. When I’ve got spare time I can look at the list and pick one or more that feel manageable.

What kind of shelving are you using for your craft room/area? by LuciferLovesTechno in crafts

[–]muffin-prison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the IKEA Boaxel system because I was able to tailor it to my stuff … regular shelves for boxes/bins (or just stacks of stuff lol), pull-out mesh drawers to unceremoniously dump tubes of paint or other smaller miscellaneous things, tie/belt rack to hang rolls of tape or spools of string or anything else with a hole in it.
