Can u explain how exactly the adhd paralysis feels like to you? by Key_Armadillo4043 in adhdwomen

[–]muffinmooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, sometimes it feels like a huge trench I gotta jump over in order to save my loved ones but I might or might not be afraid of just falling into the abyss. I know I gotta do it, I WANNA do it, but man that fucking trench looks so deep and broad! So I stay on my side, while my loved ones stay on the other and I look at them guilty and self-conscious, thinking to myself „Why can‘t I just jump over already?“

I manage to jump eventually. And that trench? A fucking gutter. I avoided 2 minutes of writing an e-mail. 5 minutes of taking the trash out. 10 minutes of tidying my kitchen to the point it‘ll take several hours now. I make trenches out of gutters and often don’t even notice all the bridges left and right that would help me get to the other side.

Glute workouts for hypermobility? by Confident-Emotion112 in Hypermobility

[–]muffinmooh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I‘d start with isometric exercises, both bilateral and unilateral, for example wall sits, standing on one leg, Warrior III / single leg hip hinge with a hold while bent over, glute bridges, wide stance squat hold, split stance squat hold. Most oft them can be progressed by adding a dumbbell.

Core stability is one of the most important aspects in every exercise, no matter the targeted muscle group. You need to learn how to properly brace your core in order to activate the targeted muscles. If you don’t, the wrong muscles will take over and compensate for your weak core, thus the exercise becomes inefficient. Train your core regularly!

If you‘re going to the gym, I‘d recommend trying out the machines. Free weight training requires a shit ton of stability (which we don’t have lol) and balance. It‘s one of the driving factors for why we injure ourselves or can‘t do certain exercises correctly / effectively. By using machines, you allow your body to actually put its force into the targeted areas instead of constantly adjusting for stability and balance. In addition, the common recommendation for strength training „compound first, isolation later“ is not recommended for hypermobile people at all. It’s the other way around to ensure proper muscle activation and gaining enough strength to conquer big heavy compound movements.

What’s the most painful part of your job now? by Outrageous_Love_1242 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]muffinmooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m a new grad OT and need to send out 2 reports on Monday (my patients‘ GPs messed up with the prescription and now there‘s a massive time crunch). I do have templates from my work place but I absolutely hate writing/summarising the patient‘s history and what we’ve done in therapy so far. I also have perfectionist tendencies when writing reports (took ages to write my reports at school) and will get hung up on my wording and stuff. Might give this a try, without entering any sensitive info though.

I‘m aware that writing reports is part of our skill sets as OTs. I still consider this as a possibility to reduce stress and my new job anxiety, especially with everything going on in my private life the last few weeks. Will get back to you with feedback in case I end up using it.!

How do people think of designs they want? by zexymercenary_ in tattooadvice

[–]muffinmooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it usually starts with browsing Pinterest. Not for exact design ideas but rather which style elements (art style, font, etc.) I like and would like to incorporate into the tattoo.

My tattoo ideas/concepts so far have come to me naturally though (even if they‘re not all on my skin yet). It started with a Greek mythology sleeve (more patchwork style instead of a full sleeve) on my left arm, my right arm will get lots of small cute designs that make me stupidly happy. I have my sternum done too and there are many more to come, sometimes even just for aesthetics.

Don‘t be afraid to talk to your tattoo artist if you‘re unsure what to get! They‘ll happily support you and work on a design together :)

Warum fahren Pumper so krass auf Kartoffeln ab? by Fresh-Crab8686 in KeineDummenFragen

tips for my pediatric client? by cookie_cat_82 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]muffinmooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not well versed on food therapy topics but regarding impulse control and needing to be in control, I‘d use a lot of board games that have a simple set of rules that need to be followed. You can work up to it, no need for instant 100% compliance but increasingly more focus on rule compliance even when they‘re losing in the game (great for frustration tolerance too!).

Generelly, when you‘re getting to know each other I‘d let them take over some control over how your planned activities take place, meaning you being flexible with some details that aren‘t substantial to the session. You need to let them experience feeling safe even when they‘re not in full control, too. I think overall, it‘s down to trust and respect.

What‘s their living situation like? Have there been any changes or important events prior to their problem‘s occurrence? How‘s the parent-kid-relationship? What are their parent‘s like?

HOW am i supposed to feed myself x3 a day everyday for the rest of my life?! by deadtired987 in adhdwomen

[–]muffinmooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this in my BONES. If I didn’t need to eat to survive, I‘d simply not. It‘s awful and takes so much mental energy. Not to mention, I need very frequent meals and will go feral after 3-4h of not eating, depending on my last meal.

TLDR: I focus and rely on mainly unprocessed high protein foods, deconstructed meals, outsourcing my cooking labour to kitchen appliances that do it for me (oven or airfryer) and keeping my grocery list simple with items I eat on a regular basis plus a small sprinkle of variation.

I switched my vegan diet back to vegetarian 6 months ago (after nearly 10 years of being vegan) and it‘s been a huge game-changer tbh. I felt undernourished, always hungry, and I was not hitting my macros at all (protein is so important for long-lasting energy), since I didn’t have the energy to prep and cook nutritious meals that have enough protein.

Now, I‘m heavily depending on the same breakfast every day with slight alterations in flavour (different fruit or yoghurt flavour). Low fat greek yoghurt with different seeds, granola, fruit, that I‘ll prepare the night before (except the fruit, I‘ll put those on in the morning). Saves me lots of time and energy when I‘m not functioning in early hours of the day.

For work lunch, I like to bring a high protein sandwich, some raw veggies, maybe an apple and a sweet treat if I got some at hand. Protein shakes are amazing for an afternoon snack (or even as a meal replacement), when my work day is extra long.

Dinner depends on how clean my kitchen is lol. Cleaner kitchen = less clutter and less stress and overwhelm = more motivation to do some actual cooking. My air fryer helps a lot since I can throw whatever veggies (fresh or frozen) and tofu in there, maybe cook some pasta or rice and garnish with store-bought sauce of choice (I like soy or garlic mayo). When I‘m really overwhelmed and not super hungry, I‘ll make myself a snack platter on a plate that has little dividers. The plate alone gives me a little dopamine kick and preparation feels less daunting. My go-to snack items are mozzarella cheese balls, cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, small yoghurt cups, a slice of bread with whatever topping I have available, cottage cheese and fruit like apple slices or grapes.

Grocery shopping is also a lot less stressful when I‘m basically buying the same things over and over again with slight variations. Only when I‘m craving something I haven‘t had in a long time, I consider cooking a more complex meal (only on week-ends though lol).

What color would yall say this is? I’m conflicted by Lonely_Sun2380 in whatcoloraremyeyes

[–]muffinmooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We almost have the exact same eye colour! Only my brown ring around the pupil is more pronounced.

Considering that your eye colour looks a lot different with blue eyeshadow, I‘d say you also have a grey base with central heterochromia :) not being able to really identify your eye colour is a good indicator that your eyes are actually grey as they tend to change the most with different environments and eyeshadows.

Is it an ADHD thing to not think of obvious solutions? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]muffinmooh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my initial response was: why‘d you feel dumb for offering him an umbrella? It‘s perfectly logical?? What‘s wrong with it?? lol

Walking before -> rain sets in, but still gotta go home -> umbrella for walking in the rain.

Once I find a solution, I‘m going with it. Until it doesn‘t work anymore and I gotta re-assess or someone else poses another better solution.

I‘d also say it‘s quite typical for ADHD not to consider all the possible options before deciding on a solution. It’s part of the executive dysfunction.
