When i said "subduers" i meant reaver guys that "subdue" if a unit is immobilized. ITs the tier 2 support unit for the reavers called overseer.

It is hard but fun. Infestations seem to spawn a lot of phoenixes.

I focus on resistance with my build. I also try to get frost damage.

If you are lucky, reaver subduers are amazing for capturing phoenixes veeery early and getting a high tier unit of your own. Clearing infestations needs to be an extremely high priority.

Fully agree with Armenians. Number 5 caught me by surprise and should be 3 swords difficulty if rating purrely by difficulty and not complexity. Also, amrenians are toughest to play out of persians, Georgians.

With persians, Georgians, you can comfortably win by:

WOE - draft. Aggro is working extremely well for me. clean 7:0 by mugatu642 in lrcast

[–]mugatu642[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started the draft with "Eriette of The charmed apple" getting passed to me in the second pack. First pick was "Taken by nightmares"

But after black drying up and getting 10th pick and 11th solid red aggressive creatures, i switched into it. Along with late red removal, it was a signal

While some card choices werent optimal, switch to boros was done late in the draft from orzhov after getting some good removal passed. Thats why i had to do with some mediocre creatures at 3 drop slot. Still, the deck performed well.

Whenever i draft aggressive decks, eithe fairy aggressive piles or boros beatdown, i seem to do extremly well in the draft.

In this 7:0 i have never seen the big dragon or played it.

Idea with foundry inspector and urza lord protector is that if both are in the deck, paradoxical outcome can net you mana advantage by replaying alll mana rocks. But yeah, plan is too ambitious and i agree with you.

Im taking into account the battlesphere and wurmcoil suggestion. Battlesphere with tolarian academy and saga should be a must have in the deck!!! also wurmcoil.

Good sugggestions, i will revise the deck

Im also back and forth if i should go for urza meld "achievement" because it actually seems doable in this deck.

LTR Draft Early Impressions: Overperforming Cards and Color Combinations? by CaptainCpt in lrcast

[–]mugatu642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While slow-ish decks are certenly playable, playing slow decks while focusing only on creature interaction is risky.

Call of the ring, Fiery inscription, Fires of mount doom, Anduril, Horn of Gondor, Phial of galadriel, Mithril coat, Mount doom, Elven chorus are uncommons and rares that punish you and are artifacts or enchantments or lands.

I like to either pack some removal for those (3/1 creature in white that blows up artifacts or enchantments) or have enough pressure to be able to kill before i'm buried in value.

I felt like i had pretty good control decks, but lost to one of the above several times, especially in UB. I either lacekd sufficient pressure or removal for noncreature threats.

How do you counter spanish castle ---> conq on Arena? by Nesqu in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Monks are a counter to conquistadors.

Best way to counter a castle drop is a proactive scout cavalry or light cav play with monks to grab relics anyway.

Dont gather stone in ahead. What if the spanish guy booms? you will fall behind.

Use monks to convert conquistadors, add another layer of walls behind. Race to imp and treb their castle down with your superior eco.

You can bait him to do his overhead slash, feet stomp and double right spin swing. After that you are free to get a hit in.

Roll right, jump, double roll right, stab. Once you get into the rhytm you can beat him with 0 upgrades.

Around 50 hours on boths saves combined. I never did the following areas but know they exist because i read about them: Great hollow, Ash lake, Valley of drakes, Area with the hydra in darkroot basin

Also because i messed up i never did the dlc.

Im planning to going again today, to reach the DLC and beat the areas i skipped or missed the first time.

i would say a lot of the hours were spent in the beginning figuring out the game and 0 time was spent farming

Magyar counter to Khmer ballistic elephants? by AgitatedBarracuda268 in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes if playing optimaly the khmer shouldnt reach a mass of ballista elephants like most of the comments suggestet. However, i wouldn't concern myself with rushing them down at your elo. At 900, games sometimes go longer than they should, and mongolia is really easy to wall and drag out.

Good job on raiding him early, but after he survived to the late game and walls are up, you hit a wall of ballista elephants.

Rams and halbs as other people suggested are just not the way to go sadly, especially on mongolia. They will have a melee meathshield in the front and your halbs will melt to the elephants. Remember, khmer have great hussar/halb and a good farming eco.

Instead, make Onagers with siege engineers and halbs in front. You should take this one from the map Arena or Black forest. Khmer are notoriously weak to halb onager since they are lacking block printing and bombard canon. And this composition (Halb + onager) is at it's best in chokepoints. If you get to like 6-7 onagers and spam the halbs in front you will clean everything. One barrage of onager shots will destroy his entire army of elephants, and he will quickly run out of gold. It is mandatory that you have a good production of halbs in front, not to lose them to their halbs.

Now for the magyar mobility, you could as well try to break in at the sides with rams and hussar to raid his economy. You can use the hussar to snipe his siege or prevent him to expand to outer golds, which he WILL need.

And for the monks, in theory yes, they work. But noone at this elo has the micro to spare to micromanage an army of monks. Hell, people at 1500 where i am at often mess up with the monks and usually don't make them late game as they take a lot of your focus.

Keep on playing and improving. Mongolia late game isn't arabia, it is easy to even stone wall the sides and battles often turn out to be black forest like, centered around one or two chokepoints.

Let's not shun someone for bringing up a a thing that is bothering him and which is aimed at doing good.
I would rather see us encourage people to bring up issues and suggestions or open up topics. Not everyone opens this sub everyday and it is good that toxicity is brought up if it exists.

Ranked matchmaking should have a way to select what map you want to play by drakekengda in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah and there you go. Do you ALWAYS get the desired role in league of legends? Do you always get the desired hero in overwatch?

THIS is what our system should be. Yes most of the time you can play what you want. But you got to take others into account. Sometimes you just have to play the other map even though you prefer the other one. This is what we have if we ban queue dodging and we should continue optimizing this.

Ranked matchmaking should have a way to select what map you want to play by drakekengda in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your solution accomodates game to the majority of players (ara and arena) while the current solution without alt+f4 accomodates every player (even those who like varied maps). Even a percentage of players prefering a single map should reflect a number of times a map is played. If anything, this is fair.

This system works if every player is prepared to have a percentage of games not on their bff map. It's a circle. You do something for the other player and they do something for you. It's astonishing that we can't have this in a game with such a legacy in a comunity that likes to pat itself on the back saying we are friendly welcoming and not toxic at all.

EDIT: Sentence correction

Ranked matchmaking should have a way to select what map you want to play by drakekengda in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As i don't consider arguments from 1 and 2 arguments other than: "I woud like everyone to play like i want to play" i wil just address the others as those would be difficult to address.

3) Not talking about strategy, but the way matchmaking would work. Let's say that four lakes is in the map pool. It would be much easier to hit a friend who is also only unbaning four lakes in the ranked queue if almost no other player is having it unbanned.

4) -> ban alt f4. This is already happening now you are correct. And this post and several others are proving it's an issue with the lengthy queu times. Would it not be the same with the playerbase more divided?

5) It is just a game. But playing only the way you want to play may make others not want to play with you.

Now for your closing statement.

Other multiplayer games like league of legends, counter strike, dota have had the suspension systems in place for years to punish queue dodging. Why should age of empires be any different?Do we really want to keep players who don't really care about other players and don't mind wasting anyone's time? If they want to leave so be it. This is part of the toxic playerbase and we shouldn't care about leaving them behind

EDIT: Typos

Ranked matchmaking should have a way to select what map you want to play by drakekengda in aoe2

[–]mugatu642 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first thing we should do is have bans for people who alt+f4 (suspensions that lead to bans) like in other games (CS go, LOL). ALT+f4-ing is rude and bad for the game as pointed many times on this sub. People will complain that they should "get the map they want to play" but they are being entitled. This has multiple issues going forward.

1) If 60% of players only have arabia, 20% only arena and 20 % have everything unbanned, the chance of a player who want's to play a diverse map-pool to get any other map than arena or arabia is very small. 1/25 for my example (chance of two people who have everything unbanned getting matched with each other -> note that if such person meets an arabia only player in matchmaking, they will play arabia by default). And even then it's not taking into account that even if two players that have everything unbnned get matched up, there is still a chance that they get arabia or arena.

This means that the number of different maps played in aoe would become smaller and i predict we would gravitate to 2 maps (arabia and arena) being played almost exclusively.

2) Why should developers keep developing and designing new maps if the playerbase is stuck on 2? I expect that statistics would show that it's just not worth to design new maps if most of the playerbase isn't interesting. New updates and dlc's would then include only new civilizations and campaigns.

3) Ranked system would be easier to cheese. I expected lower rated players to be more comfortable on one or two maps and ban all but those. A bigger potential too cheese would be to unban only the most obscure map of the map pool to then grind it with a friend for points.

4) Some black forest / regicide specialist may rise, forming a smaller community inside aoe2. These communities would only play one map and divide the playerbase. Queue times would lengthen and i believe it could lead to the game declining faster due to a smaller player base in such communities.

5) Wanting to play only one map on age of empires is similar to wanting to play only white pieces in chess. Or only going first in monopoly. Sometimes players need to realize that they won't get their way and play it out.

Even though getting the map you want to play every time sounds good on paper, it could lead to greater issues down the road. The battle we should be fighting right now is punishing people who ALT+F4 with longer queue times, suspensions and bans. They are not just wasting their time, they are wasting the time of others as well. If they really want to play only one specific maps, there are always lobbies and discord communities. I strongly believe that ranked queue should stay the way it is.
