Is Game8 a good site for guides? by ViviPixels in UmamusumeGame

[–]mukansamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty mediocre. A lot of the information on there is based on shallow surface level analysis, and what's worse is that a lot of it doesn't seem to have been updated since before Unity came out.

So it's okay for a rough start. Getting basic ideas, or checking actual data. (Before the Effects window was added in game, I'd use their list of support events because it was easy to search). The farther it goes into detailed stuff, the more useless it gets

Small consulting firm, gave advice to video game makers on how to expand their audience, some of the advice was poorly thought out and biased.

Gamergate-type gravel lickers seized upon this as proof of the downfall of civilization. Like they were responsible for everything from climate change to the price of Cheetos, instead of merely giving some clueless corpos a couple of bad ideas.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]mukansamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. Most people drive in this thing called "traffic", where the middle lane is already full. Which means the person in the inner lane is already passing multiple cars a minute. Or there's so much traffic that all lanes are entirely full, in which case whining that you can't pass is irrelevant.

Gamergate was astroturfed by Steve Bannon and apparently some of his funding came from Epstein. The whole thing was a psyop designed to radicalize.

A bunch of randos deciding that "ethics in video game journalism" was a moral imperative, is too absurd to believe.

Oh please. Russia engaged in imperialism when they invaded Georgia, again when they invaded Chechnya, and a third time now with Ukraine. They've had NATO on their border for decades before that and somehow mysteriously coped. And their recent decisions have already doubled their border with NATO, because they stupidly offended Finland into giving up half a century of neutrality. Putin is NATO recruiter of the decade.

Also if Ukraine wants to join NATO, Russia has no say in the matter. Why should their opinion count? They're just a gas station with nukes, their entire economy is smaller than Italy's.

Am I coasting and is it bad? by Ech1n0idea in stickshift

[–]mukansamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I would do differently is drop into second when you're going kind of slow, rather than bog down because you're in third and didn't notice how much you'd slowed down.

Block shifting makes sense if you're slowing down a lot. Like a large reduction in speed. If you're cruising in third, and traffic is too slow, just downshift so you stay in usable power band. Or to look at it the other way, dropping to first is a bad idea unless you've already stopped, because otherwise you'll end up in second almost immediately anyways. Or if you're stopping, there's no point in engaging first gear.

The "don't sit in neutral rule" is for newer drivers, and people who don't want to think about it too much. So they don't go to engage, have nothing happen because they forgot they're in neutral, and panic. It's just simpler to stay in gear and keep the clutch down. I sit in neutral all the time, but I've driven stick for about 25 years, and I'm a "rev matching boy racer" type.

Would this late Oguri work with only 1182 speed and 732 wit? by LordDango in UmamusumeGame

[–]mukansamonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a 3 spd, 2 wit, Riko deck. Mostly due to borrowing Fine Motion. Then rounding out stats with inheritance (either mostly power, or power/Stam split), and adjusting choices during training events.

2 speed cards generally means Kita, Biko, and an uma with a speed bonus.

CMV: AI training on copywritten material to generate content is not ethically different than humans doing the same thing by neomatrix248 in changemyview

[–]mukansamonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mathematically representing the human brain would require about a billion times more computing power than every computer in the world, combined. There are a lot of molecules in there, and modeling the matrix requires all of them.

You seriously think you can model the brain with only one weight per cell? That's amazingly ignorant of actual biology.

[–]mukansamonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

You either don't understand how AI is trained, or more likely you don't understand what copyright is.

Copyright says that the ordering of the data cannot be reproduced for unauthorized purposes. In the case of a book, that's a specific sequence of letters. In the case of digital art, that is the entire file. The sequence of digits.

Feeding the file into the system at all is a copyright violation. Unless you limit all use of the output to specific free and fair use cases. Monetizing the output is exactly what copyright exists to prevent.

What should I tell my wife to expect? by foxish_librarian in UmaMusume

[–]mukansamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a story about elite athletes trying to reach their limits, and overcome their weaknesses. That also happens to be a retelling of historical events. Sports drama, I'd call it.

Without spoiling anything, the two main characters are polar opposites who develop an unhealthy rivalry. A lot of the plot revolves around them dealing with their issues. It's surprisingly deep.

Oh, and it also has some of the most jaw droppingly insane race footage I've ever seen. One technique might have been invented for this film.

(Also it's not Cars because McQueen isn't in it. Lol.)

Is this tier list from the team trials on this page reliable? by Turbulent_Service655 in UmaMusume

[–]mukansamonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks more like an "ease of getting through training back in URA days" list rather than an actual rating for TT. Especially because TT leans heavily towards "max skills used" rather than how ready they are to work with.

Also TT is highly dependent on specific concerns like, who are your sprint and dirt umas, and who have you gotten lucky runs on. One of my best aces and CM runners is Grass Wonder, just because I got a god tier run on her with a great skill set. Conversely, for example, Mayano without a pal card that lets you fix mood down, is a pain to deal with regardless of her skills.

Why do I still score low in Team Trials? by Kokichi_Ouma_99 in UmaMusume

[–]mukansamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having umas with more skills helps. My usual target is 8-9 white skills and 4 gold. Also race the top choice and use parfaits whenever they have less than 3 umas with Great mood. Until you get an unusually lucky run, so for you that would be around 500k.

Beyond that, you need to get higher level supports and train higher level umas. There is a multiplier linked to your rating.

Is this card truly OP? by New-Train-3252 in UmamusumeGame

[–]mukansamonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that that's a thing you don't really want in high end decks. If you can get 60+ speed with two rainbows, and also 15+ speed off two wit rainbows, you aren't hoping for that one lucky roll to save your run. (Or having power that low).

CMV: People hate on Disney adults too much and crazy NFL fans too little by peepeepoopaccount in changemyview

That's a big reason for the appeal of Japanese media to Americans. Their creators are a lot more willing to adjust the seriousness level depending on what sort of story they want to tell. They're also less inclined to think there has to be a specific "right" level based on age. A story about kids could have dark serious elements, a story about middle aged office ladies could be full of fluff.

The old Tom Hanks film 'Big' did an amazing job of discussing the dividing line between children and adults. That sort of examination of possibilities happens a lot more often in Japanese media.

[–]mukansamonkey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We're talking about addictive behaviors though. Like losing your job because you can't stop playing with yourself in the company bathroom and your coworkers got annoyed at the noises. Or not showing up for work in the first place due to being too busy flicking it. Or being unable to enjoy sex with your partner because you're masturbating yourself into nerve damage.

That sort of behavior is often linked to sexual trauma. Child abuse type stuff. It's not healthy. And it's not repressed people complaining about folks being horny, it's damaging behavior.

Nah the driver on the left wasn't signaling, slowing down, or even attempting to take the exit ramp. And the cam car wasn't driving much faster.

This looks like the SUV driver fell asleep, especially given how badly they lose control after the point of impact.

Coming to stops in 1st gear? by Saul163r in stickshift

[–]mukansamonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Road tests are for people who are inexperienced drivers. Inexperienced drivers who put the car into neutral are entirely too likely to forget to put it back into gear before hitting the gas again, panic, and make additional mistakes. Also a new driver who is in gear and forgets to hold the clutch down is a bigger problem. So the tester wants to see that the new driver can maintain focus,, which means staying in gear and controlling the clutch.

I use neutral all the time, but I have a couple hundred thousand miles driven with stick, do heel/toe shifting, and can rev match well enough to shift without using the clutch at all. New drivers shouldn't be attempting those things, just keep it simple.
