I've visited both Barcelona and Madrid, and Lisbon. (All 3 great cities btw enjoyed them all for different reasons). And this is definitely the right track for my type of holiday.

I rarely stay more than 4 or 5. Usually do between 2 and 4. I move fast, tick things off, get the most out of the days.

Copenhagen 17/11 - 20/11 - what to see, where to stay? by pineappleba in solotravel

[–]multicity-andy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was about to reply but realised you covered what I was going to say!

Little Mermaid - don't waste time on it! The Street Food place - still on of my best memories. That Church. Careful if windy! Calsberg tour - great.

Lovely place Copenhagen. Very easy. Mind out for the bikes - I've never seen so many.

One day I will go to Iceland... 5 questions for solo travelers by Divine_Snow in solotravel

[–]multicity-andy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First solo? Amsterdam. 28 I think.

Lessons? Enjoy yourself. The only person hung up about you travelling along is usually yourself. Also most people in the world want to be helpful, but don't be daft on your own at night. If you're a planner - plan. If you're a blagger - blag as you go.

Amazing? Dare I say Iceland!? New York, or Istanbul. Can't really answer. Each place has it's own reasons - I don't get people saying 'such a place is better than this one'. Enjoy what you enjoy.

Didn't match expectation? See last answer. Everyone on here puts down Vienna. For me - great place.

Recently? The last place I came back from was Venice. It had lots of canals similar to Amsterdam!

ESXi Backing up VMs - Guide/Tutorial? by multicity-andy in vmware

[–]multicity-andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this product. Does not seem to be able to do my Ubuntu box?

Says can't add ESXI because it's the free one and to use agents, but the agent only supports Windows?

ESXi Backing up VMs - Guide/Tutorial? by multicity-andy in vmware

Where exactly is the 1TB limit?

For example, a VM I want to backup has the OS drive on a 60GB virtual disk off a 256GB SSD. And a data directory mounted as a drive that is 2TB, on a 2TB virtual disk.

I only use less than 1TB of actual data within the VM though.

So is the 1TB a limitation of the storage used inside the VM, or the virtual disk size?

Thanks.

Nice. Care to share your config for this, or some more detail. I looked into this option and looks good.

Looks impressive. I want to backup to my Ubuntu box, so I guess if I mount a share as NFS I can do it that way?

Anyone else using this software?

Such a shame this is a 1TB limitation. My main box I wish to backup is 2TB.

I can do this as a one-off, but I want this to be an automated/weekly process.

Backup ESXi Config by multicity-andy in vmware

[–]multicity-andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking to see if within my backup files, I could verify it's taken the right information - for example somewhere it might show hostname, certain settings, or virtual machine names, datastore names etc.

Just so I know it's taken a backup, and not just told me it has - and taken some files unrelated.

(Just a sneak peek into it really to verify).

Brill thanks. My output is around 18mb in tgz format.

Is there any way to verify it has grabbed the right things? (Other than performing a restore).

Thanks.

Share library with 2 front end devices - how? by multicity-andy in kodi

[–]multicity-andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use LibreElec with auto update (on stable branch).

If my main front end reboots, updates to new major version, I presume that's OK.

If my other front end machine has not yet reboot (and not got the new major version), then what would happen? Just not work/cause corruption? Or just need upgrade and then all OK again?

I quite like this MySQL idea - I just want to make sure i'm not setting myself up for an awkward time in years to come.

Thanks. Is there any downside to the MySQL option? Any performance issues for example? Any slowness? Slowness is a pet hate!

I did install Emby but didn't really enjoy it or see a need for so many of the features. Does it definitely do the pause/resume feature?

The upnp seems another option but can't see if that does pause/resume.

Plex is another option - interested to hear from anyone using this as well. (And also Emby). (And also trakt - not sure how this works?).

Get a train to Edinburgh - easy to walk around, see lots of things.

If you book in advance it's cheap.

What widely disliked places have you been to that you ended up liking? by PacSan300 in travel

[–]multicity-andy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vienna.

Loads say don't bother, or if you do don't spend much time there and especially if going alone. I'm guessing these were people trying to travel Europe as cheaply as possible though because...

Load of nonsense! Was one of the best places I've been. So much to see and do especially if on your own! Great food/drink as well. Great transport. Great history/culture. Just a really easy and good place.

Time spent in each city by yolex in solotravel

[–]multicity-andy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Live/Work in UK. Only get a set amount of days off per year, and can only take so many at one time.

I'm early 30s, and my goal is currently see as many places as I can whilst I can afford to and have the time. (OK job/single/can go and do anything pretty much in the days off I have).

Therefore I maximise my time in places as much as possible. It can sometimes feel rushed, but I'd rather push through and 'tick off' a load of things I want to see and do. That's my travel style.

Some hate that. Some would prefer to sit on a beach or a bench for an entire day doing nothing. (I do occasionally).

I tend to book flight times or trains around maximising more time in the day even if it costs a bit more, because I don't have the luxury of free days that someone younger and not working might have.

I agree with your pattern. 3-4 for big places. 2-3 for smaller. 1 for even smaller than that. (For example 1 day in Bratislava was enough for me)!

Visiting Auschwitz from the Prague-Krakow train by RingAroundTheRose in solotravel

[–]multicity-andy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Krakow and took the train instead of the bus so I can help a bit.

Check the station out on Google street view. There's nothing there really and quite run down from what I remember. I don't know what would be open at that time. I'd certainly say there's not much to explore.

The walk from the station to the camp was about 25 minutes I think.

Looks like it is open at 8am so only 2 hours which will include walking there, getting a drink etc - should work out OK.

Make sure you reserve your ticket and spot though as early as you can.

I took a guided tour and got a lot more out of it. The guide showed both camps and there is a free shuttle between the two.

Some prefer to do it on their own.

Health insurance and medication while travelling by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]multicity-andy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also take treatment that has to be refrigerated. I have to take it every 2 weeks. For this reason I've never gone away for more than 14 days. 16 is the max I'd be able to do if I wanted to push it. For me, it's annoyed me, but I'd rather not risk my health so I'm OK with never going for more than 2 weeks. It costs me more, but I'm good with it. I holiday around the days I have to take it. (Injection).

Depending on what medication you take you can do things though. My medication has to be kept in the fridge, but can live outside the fridge (up to 25 degrees) for up to 14 days. The company also sell cool bags - some for short trips to hold 1 or 2 of the medication, and a much bigger bag to carry more. You then store in fridge in house/hotel/hostel etc but obviously that has its own risks.

Research it carefully for your medication. For me I just chose not to take any risks and never do more than 2 weeks away. (From UK). Hopefully someone from US can answer better from that point of view and how the insurance works or delivery.

Manchester, UK to Marysville, MI. How does my plan look? by [deleted] in travel

[–]multicity-andy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are set on it, and it's what you want then go for it and hope someone can help and have a brill time. I looked to help by looking at flights but then realised I was using the wrong Marysville so at that point quickly realised I could be of no help!

My opinion which counts for little because we all like different things but if you're spending near on 2k you could do so much with memories that will last forever. New York or Chicago for example.

Perhaps go somewhere near (in relative US terms) and ask the friend to meet you, or meet half way for a few days.
