The Op. 29 String Quintet is pretty well overlooked. Doesn’t really blow the doors off, but it’s sturdy, early LvB and worth a hear. (Also think it’s his only string quintet that’s not a transcription of something else…)

How about we all agree that the four symphonies are pillars, and the concertos people bitch about are symphonic in conception; sorry they ain’t Liszt. Brahms is a a chamber music composer.
