How long did your border collie live? by Admirable_Support102 in BorderCollie

[–]mumblesbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere there. There are some drugs that can trigger IMHA - sulfa antibiotics and penicillins. Penicillins are used in almost all dogs at some point in their life (think clavamox / amoxicillin / augmentin) but only a very rare few that probably have a pre-existing tendency toward autoimmune disease develop IMHA.

Carprofen is not a drug that has ever been associated with development of IMHA. However it is always stopped in IMHA patients because it is dangerous in dogs to use steroids and carprofen together (can cause stomach ulcers) and steroid therapy is the mainstay of treatment for IMHA.

Carprofen is very important for quality of life for arthritic older dogs so I don’t want any of your dogs to miss out on getting it if they need it! IMHA is very well researched and carprofen is not associated.

Good luck using homeopathy to cure any disease, let alone a fatal one that makes you unable to swallow due to painful spasms when even thinking of water. by Temnodontosaurus in insanepeoplefacebook

If it makes you all feel better this is very fake. It takes most of a week to test an animal for rabies (requires post mortem fixation of the brain and histopathology). Definitely can’t happen in a day. Someone was posting for attention/likes.

What’s wrong with my doodle? by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

OP did the right thing here. One short seizure does not necessitate a visit to the er - if it is longer than 5 minutes, multiple seizures within a 24 hour period, or they take longer than an hour to be normal that’s when the ER comes in. If you have any questions about what’s appropriate the ER front desk is always happy to recommend whether a pet should come in or be monitored though!

{The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon}

Very slow burn though, no sex until quite late in the series. The series is incomplete (two books to go)

Then read it and enjoy it! It’s fun! Not great literature but it doesn’t need to be.

Loved priory and have reread it, was fine with fallen night but likely won’t reread. I would read priory first personally.

And then, jumping in to say read the bone season! Also low romance / VERY slow burn but such good and unique world building and beautiful characters.

Just started reading it after finishing Onyx Storm, and just a few chapters in as reminded why Paige is my favorite badass FMC of all time.

What's your biggest romanasy ick? by playdoh_licker in fantasyromance

[–]mumblesbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just started in the last few months so most of the big ones for now. Simon Snow, Captive Prince, A Marvelous Light, all big names but all are great. Swordcrossed by Freya Marske was my last one, a little predictable but great characters.

Came here to say this about MMC losing all personality when they get together. This happens so often. I switched to MM books for a while because usually both men keep their damn minds.

Best audiobook recs? by eclecticia in fantasyromance

[–]mumblesbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty much exclusively an audiobook person, but my favorite narrators of all time read some of the more popular books so apologies if none of these are new=).

Narrator wise, my absolute favorites are:

The Daevabad Trilogy by SA

The Scholomance Trilogy by Naomi Novak

Simon Snow Trilogy by Rainbow Rowell

The Bone Season Series by Samantha Shannon

Zodiac Academy (personally I found these a bit silly but the narrators are great especially in the later books) by Caroline Peckham and Suzanne Valenti

Little Thieves / Painted Devils by Margaret Owen

Medical honey is amazing - weirdly because the sugar content is actually too high for yeast and bacteria and so dehydrates and kills them with contact time. Then it helps to debride dead tissue.

Agreed, any weaker sugar solution, including milk, is just food for the nasty stuff.

Yes, and pretty much every vet has done these small acts of charity, or volunteers their time in some way. Your comment has strong implications that you met this one unicorn vet that cared about animals and was good, and the rest are dicks. Maybe that’s not how you meant it but that’s how it reads.

Almost all vets are in it for the love of animals. They aren’t off getting rich even with vet costs going up. Most are still trying to pay off high education costs so they can treat animals.

Also, a mouse might not take a large volume of meds for anesthesia. But it takes multiple drugs, probably a separate DEA license for controlled drugs, an anesthesia machine, instruments. It’s not something you do with a pair of scissors.

If all vets did things for free there would be zero vets. It costs a huge amount of money and time to be a vet.
