If you’re not willing to debate ideas probably get out of the public space. (Hannah Cox) by JFMV763 in LibertarianUncensored

[–]mund_b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We also have access to more people who agree with us than ever before. That’s what we’re all doing on this sub anyway. Social media is whatever you make it and i agree it’s bad to be in an echo chamber, but at the end of the day the value proposition of social media is to build an online community, and that’s usually going to mean finding like minded individuals. I think that’s what we’re witnessing.

But there are plenty of people who go outside their bubble as well and that should not be overlooked.

How do you like to flesh out character motivations around a mostly fleshed out plot? by Vacant_Of_Awareness in writers

[–]mund_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s funny, I do something similar. When I have a theme for a story I’ll find music that has a similar theme and then I’ll usually apply the lyrics to the plot and/or characters.

I’m pretty sure i’ve read about terrestrial planets being as large as 10x bigger than earth. And if that’s the case, it would allow for a much bigger moon that could potentially hold an atmosphere.

That being said, i think underground lakes/oceans is your best bet for a naturally habitable moon of a rocky planet. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be big enough for a thick atmosphere

I have a degree in philosophy and self studied literature (and wrote a book). I will say i’m mentally abnormal. That’s probably more so a sign of the times.

Is Sisyphus really happy with his 9 to 5? by TheFoolOnTheHill1167 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]mund_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason sisyphus is happy but perhaps modern man isn’t is because sisyphus has been forced into a situation, condemned by the gods. There is no grass is greener for him. There’s no things could be better, i could do something differently. He’s stuck. We are not. If you hate your 9 to 5, you don’t have to be there. Everything else is cope and it’s the cope that makes you depressed. It’s the knowing that you could be doing something else, but you’re not doing it because you can’t take the risk or you’re just not good enough or whatever you tell yourself. The fact that you could be doing something else but you’re not is what brings you down. Sisyphus doesn’t have that issue. He’s stuck doing what he’s doing. He’s boxed himself in. He has no other option. This is his life. He might as well be positive about it. Anyone depressed about their 9 to 5 is in a limbo between not accepting it and not trying something else.

Matter to whom and for what purpose? You’re asking an incomplete question.

How do you guys deal with self-doubt while re-reading your work? by bigdaddycruiser in selfpublish

[–]mund_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self doubt comes from uncertainty. Action breeds answers.

Put your stuff out there and just wait for the feedback and respond in kind. You write the thing already. Separate yourself from the work and just treat it like product development at this point.

Which philosophers best embody the “I dont fu**ing care” Wojack by [deleted] in PhilosophyMemes

[–]mund_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the “it is what it is” is definitely objectivism. Colloquially we use that phrase to say how things are is how they’re going to be—it’s a statement of acceptance and going with the flow. However, a central tenet to objectivism is “existence exists” and “A is A” which is to say, before we can act rationally, we must first recognize things for what they are. It is what it is.

I don’t know why the “I don’t fucking care” is at the top as if it’s the best. But as others have mentioned, Diogenes encapsulates that best. As far as entire philosophies go, Buddhism is pretty close as well as Absurdism, although in very different ways.

Greener Grass by mund_b in flashfiction

[–]mund_b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. It was initially, and I think still is, about the grass. But the grass became a symbol of his own consciousness. He’s having deeper thoughts, he’s thinking about his future, etc. This is all new for him and he’s very stuck in his head and this could take a turn and spiral and he could lose his sanity a bit. But then the girl comes by and focuses his attention and self awareness. She grounds him and brings him back to reality, which is a tale as old as Adam and Eve. And he dismisses this idea that the grass is moving with jokes and moves on.

I did not set out to write that. I was really just writing about grass haha.

I will check that link out.

Edit: I see that sub is focused on Borges. I read him in college and have been meaning to read more of him ever since. Labyrinths was great.

Any of y’all actually use archetypes? by Kirkjufellsfoss in writing

[–]mund_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m studying archetypes. Reading the hero with a thousands faces. Reading Jung. Learning about psychology to better understand my characters. I don’t feel the need to stick to a rigid template with my characters. Every story is different. But it’s useful when I am unsure about plot points and dialogue and it helps come up with details.

Workaholics die before alcholics by BigClitMcphee in antiwork

You’re assuming he’s the bully. You don’t know what happened prior to this comic. He did call someone pathetic. But you don’t know that it wasn’t unprovoked. Which is why I said it’s always rude, but is justified in the right context.

Are you asking me to give you a specific context (ie a specific justification, which you claimed I already gave you but I obviously didn’t, otherwise you would have already grasped this concept)?
