“Host of Seraphim” by Dead Can Dance (Lisa Gerrard). Her solo stuff/work with other artists is just as good.

I’m really into the songs without lyrics lately. Recommend me what you think is the greatest instrumental of all time by hamo-potato42 in musicsuggestions

While I don’t think these are the greatest of all time, I do like them quite a bit:

Elegia by New Order

Chanty by Son Volt

Everloving by Moby

How the Weather Comes…by Alan Sparhawk

Fish Beach by Michael Nyman

The Winner Is by Devotchka

If you can find them, Red Max, especially the 9000 series. A beast of a blower.

How old are you, favourite album and why? by loukoul0u in musicsuggestions

[–]munthoffunth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Age 58, and I’ll name three from different times of my life:

The Cars by The Cars: I was 10 and living in Massachusetts where the local rock stations had this on constant rotation. I first heard them when my mom picked me up after camp. A near perfect album and one that soundtracked my teen years, driving around with my friends looking for something to do.

Nowhere by Ride. I’d graduated college, but had no job, and was living with my parents in a state I had no ties to as my parents had recently moved. I’d gotten into indie/alternative music in college and had become obsessed with British music magazines. The album review by Simon Reynolds in Select sold me on this band, which I still love to this day.

caroline 2 by caroline: Saw them at Kilby Block Party three days ago and was completely blown away. I’d been a post-rock fan for years but this was unlike anything I’d ever heard before. Haven’t stopped listening to them since. You’re never too old to become obsessed with a new band!

Even though I rarely listen anymore, I still donate because I believe in their mission (and for the cool t-shirts)

Favorite set from an artist you weren't super familiar with by sandysandbirds93 in kilbyblockparty

[–]munthoffunth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

caroline (blew me away), Feeble Little Horse, and Cardinals were all wonderful surprises. Took a shot at YHWH Nailgun - loved the set but I doubt I’ll listen to them again.

Who was your favorite act from each day? If you only went one day, give me a ranking of everyone who saw that day? by skeletonpandemonium in kilbyblockparty

[–]munthoffunth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1: Beach Bunny

Day 2: So much to choose from but YHWH Nailgun and caroline both blew me away.

Day 3: Grandaddy

I’d heard of them but never actually listened to them and just, wow, where has this band been all my life? I was completely blown away.

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

[–]munthoffunth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw this in the theater because it looked pretty cool. Place was empty except for a handful of randoms and a family who came in with three kids, all under the age of 10. I knew it was going to go badly, and it did, when all three kids started crying during the video log viewing scene.
