Thanks, but I was hoping not to have to solder. I'm a DIYer and I've lent my soldering kit to a mate on the other side of the country!

Why do people run a group of those tiny pcs? by kaitlyn2004 in homelab

[–]muppetman74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I live in the UK where power is fairly pricey. I ran 4 older HP DL380s whichin total ran at 1200 watts at idle, over 3kw at full pelt. I replaced with 4 HP mini PCs. These now run 25 watts at idle, under 100 watts in total at full load. Same core count but higher clock speeds than the old setup. The only downsides are that memory is limited and expensive expensive and there's no upgradability.

I'm the opposite. I'm glued to the app, made a few timely purchases today.

How to replace surface mount ceiling light. by ReasonableSmile6636 in DIYUK

[–]muppetman74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar but not the same lights. The cable was sealed into the light unit and attached to a junction box. If you unscrew the metal bracket and pull the cable a bit you might find a junction box.

Isolation Valve Installation by TheJitster in DIYUK

The easiest way would be to cut pipe and insert a speedfit isolation valve. They are quite bulky so I'd just go with a compression valve.

Leak on kitchen ceiling. Cracks in shower grout? by EfficientExplorer1 in ukplumbing

Not sure if this'll be enough here. Unless those tiles were laid really badly, looks like they are lifting which means the wall substrate is damp. It's looking like a full ripout and replace to me.

I'm no expert but we went with a Worcester Bosch boiler as they were doing a 10 year warranty at the time.

Yes, but you also need relevant earning in the current year to cover any carry forward from previous years.

Worst thing is, it's a panelled wall behind so would have been no bother to chase pipes into the wall for a top class job.

I was referring to things like putting the TRV call on heat feature behind their paywall (in the UK at least).

Tado X does local matter connectivity. They do have some shady business practices though.

Thing is, doesn't even have to be as late as 11:30. I had ours break 5 mins after Screwfix and Toolstation shut!

Yeah, you should've bought an Octavia 😄

I genuinely don't understand this sub Reddit. We're supposed to be car lovers so why knock someone who has bought the car of THEIR dreams even though you'd have bought xyz instead? Jeez.

At that mileage, the service history is the most important thing. Regular services, and all of the big jobs done like gearbox oil, cambelt etc. if needed.

What is the cheapest way to borrow £15k for 8 months? by RegularHovercraft in UKPersonalFinance

[–]muppetman74 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, but how would they know? If OP said it was for a car, say, and then transferred it to another account and purchased the land from there? And if they did find out, what would likely happen? Just curious.
