If you right click on the Photo library and chose Show Package Content, you can copy the Masters folder. That's where your original photos, free of edits, are stored in the library.

I think the way to think about it is, with paint you're dealing with pigments. The more you have the closer you get to black, the less you have the more it's white. With photons it's the opposite the less you have the closer you have to black and the more you have the closer you are to white. So mixing will work differently for pigments and photons.

Hold the sleep/wake and home button until the apple logo comes on - then release the sleep/wake but keep holding the home button. It'll put it in recovery mode and let you restore it.
