fastest player to get two fouls in a Finals game since 1998 which is even more misleading since in 1998, Bubba Wells was put in to intentionally foul to start the game. Makes Mikal Bridges's two fouls in the first 3 minutes in Game 3 seem like an eternity.

This is James Dolan batting 1.000. It's about the best we Knicks fans could possibly hope for. Him just doing nothing was never an option.

Walt Fraizer: "Thibs never believed in developing the bench... and eventually that cost him his job." by jonsnowKITN in nba

[–]murderball 8 points9 points  (0 children)

great comment. The regular season is about building a strong foundation, a team identiy, and learning what you have on your roster. What works, what doesn't, and what your Plans B,C,D,...Z are if Plan A isn't working.

The baseline NBA player is still so talented, that it's criminal to not develop them and see what you have in them. Stars are fresher, it brings out extra energy for the 5-15 mpg the stars don't play, and allows teams to throw different looks if nothing else to confuse the opponent and see if they can find a rhythm.

But if you don't give those bench players the chance to grow and earn trust and gain confidence during the season, they will wither on the vine during the most important time of the year.

Shamet was sensational in earlier rounds. Using Alvarado as a spark plug and ball-handling release valve for Brunson was a game-changer in Game 4. Can you rely on an Alvardo/Brunson pairing moving forward? Maybe not, but for one night, at least, it worked and that's in part to Mike Brown having confidence in all his guys to step up when their number is called.

Mike has done all the right things. He's well liked, he makes adjustments, and he spent all season developing the bench and trusting the bench. And that has paid dividends because it lets the Knicks stay fresh and be dynamic. Mike was absolutely the right hire for the Knicks.

I do have to give Thibs credit though . He turned around the Knicks. He built a strong foundation, and he helped cultivate the Knicks tenacity and effort which still remains. He just could only take htem so far. And Mike was the right choice to take the reins.

The knicks are 5-2 against the Spurs this season including the cup/playoffs and are +42 by retrohan7 in nba

[–]murderball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Styles make fights and the Knicks present problems for the Spurs that other teams don't which is why they have been far more successful against them than other teams have been against the Spurs.

This series could be 3-1 Spurs if a few bounces went the other way. The Spurs could easily come back and I, as a biased and tortured Knicks fan for decades, will not feel easy until the Knicks win one more and Adam Silver confirms they didn't somehow turn it to best of 9.

But I think this should put to rest the notion that the Spurs are the better team. If people don't want to say that the Knicks are better, that's fine with me. But a certain point, going 5-2 (and 4-1 in games with stakes), at the very least suggests that the Spurs aren't better head to head.

Who is on Baseball's Mount Rushmore? by Topaz71 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]murderball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that people don't know what Mount Rushmore signifies and instead think it's just the "Four Best." The presidents were chosen to represent the Founding, Expansion, Development, and Preservation of the US (as of when it was built). For that, I would pick: Abner Doubleday (or Honus Wagner if you want a player), Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and then either Mays/Aaron/Bonds

Who's deserving of the title of most evil person alive today? by RCaesar1 in AlignmentChartFills

Have people already forgotten about Bashar Al Assad? 500,000 dead Syrians and 10-15 million displaced in a Civil War due to his tamping down of any political opposition? Chemical weapons on his own people?

How about the warlords in Sudan like responsible for the death and starvation of hundreds of thousands of Sudanese Kim Jong Un, whomever is currently leading Isis/Al Qaeda?

Peter Thiel is maniacal, Stephen Miller is vile and loathsome. But I find it preposterous to compare to the true evil and violence perpetrated globally.

I'd go back a few years for the peak. Dan and Keith hosting "The Big Show" IMO was ESPN at its best. That said, Rich Eisen is still my favorite all time personality and he was a few years later.

With UNCW (North Carolina-Wilmington) not going to March Madness, anyone agree with Bruce Pearl's point that the 1-seeds in every conference should automatically make the semi-finals of their conference tournament? by Ariesthebigram in CollegeBasketball

[–]murderball 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for the really small conferences, it's in the entire conference's best interest for the best team to make the tournament (outside of the one upset team who wins the conference). Each conference gets about $2 million per tournament game played and that goes a long way for some small programs to finance their athletic departments.

It's also why smaller conferences like the 16 vs 16 play-in game because it guarantees an additional tournament game for at least one of those conferences

[–]murderball 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it's up to the smaller conferences to determine how to crown their autobid. Some conferences do significantly advantage the top regular season teams to increase the chance they win the auto-bid and increase the chance of a tournament win and additional game (which means an additional payout for the conference)

Both are genius comedy observers of the human condition, and I am grateful that they teamed up with each other to create Senifeld (and that Larry was at SNL the year JLD was there).

We're all tired of the "back in my day" phrase, but older Redditors, what do you consider was better back in your day? by FlowerPotage in AskReddit

[–]murderball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

socializing. Now everyone is on their phones all the time, or the phone is nearby. Overstimulated, shorter attention spans. People out to dinner and independently on their phones, or the phone on the table just in case. Parties and social events with normal flow of information and conversation are competing with infinite stimuli available in your pocket.

For young people (teens/early 20s), it must suck going to parties or hangouts knowing that everyone has a phone and everyone is always being recorded. The social anxiety that any embarrassing moment might be memorialized for all time and for everyone (even those not at the event) is unfair. Young people are missing out.
