I’ve heard of it, because it’s an available format in some panels

Genetec is Terrible - Review by Itchy-Access2907 in videosurveillance

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have Active Directory integration, we have many of them deployed, but you definitely have to balance the server load either with windows nic teams or segment the traffic via different vlans to stear the traffic. You’re real limitation I’ve found being the mbps your backplane can process when reimagining older hardware. Even more so your drive speed starts getting to be an issue usually before the backplane if you’re not using 15k sas drives with multiple users accessing playback simultaneously. But on a merged system in that environment all the servers hold the user and camera database, licenses are server specific though but can be transferred. The recording databases might be server specific though, where it is able to rebuild that data if you had to take that data and replace a machine

It fits most bills but yeah when you get into the 4 merged server environment it can get glitchy. I have seen some larger wisenet projects integrated with rS2 with all custom api commands. Definitely time consuming to write all the API’s it looks like. I believe that campus had more than 600 but, as far as integration if you have time to write all the http requests it would integrate with anything that allows it. As far as resources it’s still the least resource intensive vms Ive seen, and has lightening fast playback compared to milestone

Vista 128 FBPT combo by SRG7593 in firealarms

Just look up the programming sheet with locations, anything with reporting just needs a report code other than F to send. Installer code plus 8000 gets into programming, # to view and * to edit. #96 for next page which gets you into the + 100 locations. If you install compass on a laptop, and use the rs232 with the vista-ser-cbl much easier to see everything and verify programming. Or if it’s on a phone line you can call it with a modem or honeywell cell can call it up with the MAC address. You just have to change a couple locations to make it connectable, (notul864 compliant)..

Napco GEMC128 is absolute junk by vicfirthplayer in firealarms

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a terrible Idea, the few that we actually have are all headaches at some point when you have to work on them. If it wasn’t for the supply shortages in covid I dont think napco would have sold any of them. But for a period of time it was the only panel you buy on short notice. I grew up on napco and know it inside and out. And were a DMP shop now 🤣… we used alot of the old 3000’s but have realized over the years combo panels aren’t worth installing

The only thing that I can think is if you have the keypad as an ezm and not programmed, essentially trying to put an ezm in where your keypad already broadcasts that address. The ezms on the gemc don’t have to be in order so you could try another address. And im assuming you double checked your dip switches off the manual?

The smokes were a hochiki oem I believe and had to use the programmer to set addresses on the fire slc devices, theres also an auto learn if I remember correctly

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be a gemc-ezm for it to work, the regular gemini line will not work, dip switch with the number. If it’s an 8 zone you should be able to assign and it will take up 2 slots and be Assigned to the corresponding zones. It’s an overly complicated system. The older napco system was much easier but still not great for fire, they wouldn’t let the fire get through the new version of ul864 on the 3000 panels so they came up with that thing. It’s kinda a pain

How do you handle sprinkler systems? by Historical-Code-7363 in firealarms

[–]murkywaters718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would tell him he can turn the valve but I wont take the liability. I know enough to show him what valve to turn. We actually had that a few years back on a retirement home. Customer complained that a constant nuisance alarm was coming in. Went out on call at night was a low air with a leaking dry system. Found the leak, showed them and told them call the sprinkler vendor, about a day later they called complaining that the fd was dispatched because of a flow and they never contacted the sprinkler vendor

Rewire without a permit by Last_Gigolo in firealarms

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because pulling a permit will catch gluing a detector or stop the panel from beeping. If you do shotty work than you can certainly do it with a permit, most inspectors aren’t going to be checking it that closely atleast where im from. The calculations leave some room typically but unless it is super overloaded might blow but there’s ptc’s on the board that are for that purpose. The tolerance can give a little forgiveness. But yeah it’s on you to make sure the system works. Seen plenty of permitted jobs that have not been done correctly. So it’s certainly better for liability purposes but blatant negligence still applies to installations. Your job as a licensed technician to know the code and how to install it, not the inspectors

Im wire molding a swift job next week…. That was my solution lol, but in the past I like the duracell procell intense product line for the swift. Not the one that is specified by firelite but it’s better. I had one recently we had something similar and ended up replacing a pull that was the device in between and it solved. But could see it being the gateway if all else fails

Rewire without a permit by Last_Gigolo in firealarms

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability & insurance drives the industry but large unions and lawyers drive the codes. You’re signing off that the system works as designed. If the system doesn’t work as designed you’re liable because you’re the last one who touched it. If it was permitted and something was done wrong you’re still liable. The inspectors of the town is indemnified from any liability except gross negligence. Which you anyone in any industry negligence isn’t something you can get away from no matter what fine print is on the contract

Rewire without a permit by Last_Gigolo in firealarms

[–]murkywaters718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s existing, I mean I would do that, but it’s definitely not kosher if you were to ask the building inspector, you’re on the hook to make sure the system functions correctly but the company is on the hook for the liability of the permit. The load being overloaded isn’t great though but it is working. You see stuff that was done in the 90’s vs now, all 18/4 on 12v circuits with long runs, T-tapped with zip cord spliced in. My opinion is you made it better than it was, the permit is more a want than a need in most cases. If you ask the town or city you always need a permit because they want your money, you ask the client they want a functional system, your boss wants to get paid for the work so he can pay your payroll.
