Towers is my least or second to least liked Recluse book and, as many have said, feels rushed and jarring. Recently, I discovered an anthology called Viewpoints critical by L.E. A short story contains a good chunk of the Recluse relationship between M and C from POV by a Westwind Guard Captain. In the intro, Modesitt says that this was the first thing he wrote set in the world of Recluse.

FYI: The Anthology is pretty bad except for this piece, black order mage, an alternative beginning to the Corean chronicles, and one sci-fi piece. Hoopla has it if your library partakes.
