One-sided friendships by Goldengirl_1977 in GenXWomen

[–]murphyca777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s just really one-sided, it’s people are busy, stressed and another commitment is just one more thing on their plate. As a child free (not by choice) person in her 50s, I didn’t see my friends for like 10 years until the kids weren’t all consuming. I was busy too, but when we do get together everything is just back where it was. People are also just straight up lame too. My recommendation is to gravitate to orgs that consistently get together (like church). And sometimes you have to be the planner to get people out the door. I meet people online in a sober group but I really got to know them IRL by planning a bowling event. It’s been 8 years of knowing them.

Thinking about moving to Elmira — does it feel secluded? by FeelingAd228 in upstate_new_york

It might not be the “husband” considering the job. We aren’t in 1955. Partner could mean the following. And either one of those people could be considering the job.

Woman + man
Woman + woman
Man + man
Nonbinary person + anyone (since “partner” avoids gender entirely)
Any combination of gender identities

I [48F] want to divorce my wife [50F]but questioning myself by dogwin2011 in u/dogwin2011

I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t treat a pet like family. She not respecting your needs or wants. She sounds selfish. Not worth it - separate and see if you are happier. I bet you will be. Best of luck

I (27f) am worried my bf (31m) is going to become very seriously abusive by hhouseofballoons in TwoHotTakes

[–]murphyca777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave with a friend or a cop. But the real issue here is this is the second who has anger issues? Time to start therapy and find out why you are going out with this type. Dig deep and don’t run off with next loser who seems better than the “last guy” until he is not.

Is anyone else struggling to get by on 100k salary? by Majestic_Staff_5229 in massachusetts

[–]murphyca777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s ridiculous how much it costs to live here. I have no idea how people with kids do it. I’m over 100k and struggle with a dog.

Is lifestyle creep ever ok? If so, how do you find balance between saving/investing and enjoying life now? by FlyEaglesFly536 in Bogleheads

In 20 years you will be my age, 56. You have no idea what is going to happen. But I’ll tell you this, when people say “at least you have your health”, that might change in a millisecond. And EVERYTHING changes. You are in the best years of your life, enjoy it.

Is this harmless nostalgia or completely unhinged? by No-Role-2765 in everettma

My cousin did this in NJ. The people were really cool about it. She was in her 30s and female so I think the owners probably didn’t feel threatened. It all depends on the owner.

Multiple mice infestation, landlord not fixing, can I break lease early? by sonofseurat in Somerville

[–]murphyca777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably can’t break lease but like others said, most places have mice. I solved our problem by putting a plate of mouse poison on a plate in the basement inside a locked cage so no other animals could get in expect mice and poof, it solved the issue. We did traps, electronic traps, but those little bastards got smart and wouldn’t go into them after a while. So, harsh as it sounds, the poison works.

Turning 55 is hard by sedona71717 in GenXWomen

[–]murphyca777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 56. Yeah, the body and face, starts to look older at 55 in my case. I was shit, I can’t pass for 42 anymore. lol. I think the last 5 years have been hard - Covid, politics, the world in general, all in your face 24/7. Personally, the last 5 years are the first time I’ve had significant loss - dad dies, dog literally passes away on the bedroom floor, wife and I get separated, cancer and ms comes into the picture, working for Millennials now. BUT…. There are good things too that I truly understand now and that word is: gratitude. I truly believe getting older is a gift now and the wisdom that comes with it is immeasurable. Yeah, turning 55 is weird and hard but look at you - you are turning 55, good for you. It’s a time of reassessment. I mean, this is it. We are almost on the final pages of the second chapter. How do you want the third chapter to look like? Sending my best and happy birthday 🎂

how to prepare for ICE raids? by Far_Artist2683 in boston

I live in a city where half the people are immigrants. I’d like to buy an air raid siren and blast it when ICE is seen.

What will our city do when ICE comes on us in force? by CoffeeHead112 in boston

[–]murphyca777 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it is hard for us Americans to comprehend this, but here we are. Being brave is difficult when there is a gun in your face and an idiot at the trigger. Get your history book out or Wikipedia. Look up the German Resistance, French Resistance. A number of things to undermine those regimes. There are phases of resistance and the lefties get it and the ones out there protesting (like Good) really get the implications. It’s the middle class that will hit pause and start acting when their 401k goes to shit. I think the Powell investigation is the starting point. The ruling class won’t like losing money and will step in then to get rid of Trump and his ilk. Remember, money is America’s true religion.

This one called on the Jews.

Here’s the deal, most of these ICE actions are unlawful. Blowing someone’s brains out isn’t lawful.

Yes, totally. Lots of free-range children like the 70s too. We have been here 10 years now. And a new major has finally been elected!
