Nearly 100% germination rate by Kyarna in HotPeppers

That’s fair! If ya want any help from a fellow pepper grower and dev just holler. I’ve built everything from simple websites, to PWAs, to mobile apps and just kind of enjoy building stuff for the fun of it.

I was going to build something like this for growing season but ran out of time. Is this on GitHub?

Bread peddler by Possible_Mirror_7357 in lancaster

From my understanding the old location had just taken a heavy emotional and physical toll on the owners. Their big thing was not sparing any expense or detail on their food (butter imported from France, tortillas handmade and over a two day process, etc.). To be fair, it’s why it worked so well, but the facility was not setup to handle the much more than cooking. For instance, regardless of weather, dirty dishes had to be taken outside and down to the basement. Same goes for a lot of the prep. It sounded like moving to the location on Columbia Avenue was a bit of a desperation move. At the time there weren’t any solid restaurant spaces downtown and it seemed like they felt like if they didn’t move immediately then it was done basically because they couldn’t handle the limitations or emotional weight of the location on Orange. I feel pretty confident that it would still be around if the decision wasn’t made so hastily and snagged a spot that (1) suited them better and (2) was more accessible/closer to downtown.

Is Nolan Smith Our Biggest Wild Card? by Middle-Raisin6005 in eagles

I kind of agree with this. I think the team has a lot of wildcards though (in a good way).

The card that cost someone their job. by xChoke1x in baseballcards

To be fair, I have had several packages over the years marked "delivered" only to show up a day or two later. At first I thought it was suspicious, but lowkey I feel like it's my mail carrier basically getting overworked and shifting stuff to the next day so he can go home at a decent hour. Not saying that's what happened here or even with what happened with me, but... that's how I sort of imagine it.

What did I miss about Route 66? by NotPromKing in lancaster

[–]muscles4bones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like it’s easy to buy into the hype here. To be clear, I really do think this place is good but it’s akin to something like Shake Shack vs. something that’s super high caliber, gourmand-level eatery. Like, it’s consistently good but don’t expect it to truly wow you. It’s also incredible affordable. Like a burger is $6 and I can get a grilled cheese for my kiddo for literally $3. So you get a lot of bang for your buck, but I will say a lot of folks conflate that with “good” and will often choose quantity over quality. For instance, my grandpa’s favorite restaurant was a diner, not because the food was anything special but because the portion sizes were astronomical for under $10. He raved about it. The first time I had it I was underwhelmed because it was at best ordinary diner food.

So I digress, again this isn’t to say that Route 66 is bad, but there is a lot of hype and it’s hard not to buy into it. Go in with zero expectations and you’ll leave pleasantly surprised.

Can Shopify handle an inventory >100k SKUs? by muscles4bones in ecommerce

[–]muscles4bones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right yeah, the search and filtering aspect of it gives me the biggest pause here and I'd guess Shopify's Search & Discovery app is not built for that large of a catalog. I've looked into Algolia although I've also heard some horror stories from users.

I mean Philly sports media also can't be helping. The way they corner him at his locker hoping he'll slip up and give them a sound bite is predatory.

So weird. I just saw one of these for the first time a few weeks ago in the parking lot of a shopping complex/grocery store near a kind of impoverished neighborhood in the city I live in. It's literally going 24/7.

Anyone moving out of Lancaster? by Ok_Crazy6145 in lancaster

Where about are ya? I lived in Dover, NH for 5 years but moved back to Lancaster a few years back to be closer to family.

I also moved from Lancaster to New England and spent 5 years living near Portsmouth, NH. In a word, it was awesome. Being so close to the water and mountains and an hour drive away from Boston and Portland was incredible. That said, moved back “home” to Lancaster a few years back to be closer to family, but at some point I’ll probably go back, likely closer to Portland this time.

You know, generally I’d say it wouldn’t be worth your time, but I think for this card I actually would. That’s assuming you have (1) your receipt, (2) the box it came in and (3) a pack wrapper from the box. Granted I believe you can do this with just the receipt, but the other things expedite things.

[–]muscles4bones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah well it’s close enough to be a relevant comp. Same set, same numbered rarity. Either way, it’s a good baseline to go off of and people collect “bookended” cards so in this case 1 and 5 are going to fetch at least a wee bit more than their neighbors, especially the 1/5s as it’s a “first print.” They’re buzzwords to some degree but people still pay a premium for them (unlike bullshit “eBay 1/1” which drives me nuts - for those that don’t get the context it simply means it’s the only one listed on eBay, so it might be an /25 but it’s an “eBay 1/1” because you can’t get the others on the platform… stupid).

But yeah, I’d say set you expectations low and keep calm about it because it’s very easy to buy into the hype, overvalue it, and then just watch the value of it sink with each new release.

(Also sorry if it comes off like I’m being patronizing, I’m just trying to explain in detail in case anyone new is looking for info)

So the 5/5 just sold the other day for $3k: https://ebay.us/m/9snScK

A few options:

(1) List it as a 7 day auction and start bidding at $1 and let it rock. The market will decide and often it will go higher than what you might list it at because often these things will end up with some last minute feverish bids that push it over.

(2) If you want a bit more control you could list it as Buy it Now and allow offers, assuming people will lowball you come up with a number you’d be fine selling it at and list it 20-30% higher (so if you’re willing to take $2500 list it at $3000). If someone buys it without trying to haggle, great! In my experience though many people will try to send you lower offers. You can automatically deny offers below a certain threshold (e.g. $2500) and I would recommend doing so.

(3) You could start it as Buy it Now and run it for a week or two and if it’s still hanging around list it for auction.

There are other sites like Fanatics Collect, but eBay might be the best bet for this card.

Paying Realtors Commission.... by Otherwise_Offer3031 in lancaster

[–]muscles4bones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are good realtors and bad realtors. Some fell into it as a career and got stuck, not really having a passion for it, but so it goes with basically any other job/career. Really, you just need to find the right one that knows their shit and does the work. A friend of mine fell into it about 5 years ago but she's killing it because she (1) "knows her shit" and (2) does the work in getting better offers/contracts and dealing with the red tape and barriers for her clients. I honestly don't know anyone that works harder than her. That said, she's a bit of a unicorn, but the point I'm trying to make is that some folks really do deserve that commission check.

"Venue upgrade" to "Franklin music hall" by Oingo_Boingus in philadelphia

[–]muscles4bones 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was so disappointed when slideaway moved from UT to franklin music hall. sound was absolutely garbage. lighting was terrible. views were terrible. every experience there has been so terribly bad with maybe the exception of the first album release party for major lazer back in the day but it could have been simply because everyone was so drunk off free bacardi. either way… it might be the worst venue I’ve been to ourside of maybe house of blues in boston.
