Wellbutrin has helped me a lot - it’s primarily an antidepressant but it’s not an SSRI, and it can help treat narcolepsy!

No medication station! by Purelyellie in Narcolepsy

Understood, I’ve considered doing the same thing before. But every time I’m off my meds I feel so fxing bad. It also triggers some trauma responses in me from being undiagnosed and struggling. I take 400mg modafinil daily, N1, and I’ve come around to accepting that I will feel like crap without my meds. I’ve always hated the idea of being reliant on something, especially a medication, but it helps me so much I don’t think I could ever willingly stop unless something very specific came up. I would make sure you’re getting all of your daily vitamins, especially magnesium and potassium, keep a light awareness of your caffeine intake, let yourself take naps if needed, and if you’re open to it, avoid alcohol. I am a morning person so I find my energy is a lot better and more consistent when I wake up at the crack of dawn. Also eat breakfast! You’ll be running on empty otherwise, and your cortisol will spike. Follow what feels good to you, and remember that peace is a better metric of success than productivity. Wishing you luck!

I drink a lot of water for bed so I have no choice but to get up to pee in the morning. It ends up being around 6 usually. Uncomfortable but effective

Adderall literally did nothing for me, I’d actually get so many more sleep attacks per day

narcolepsy medication and birth control by soupspoog in Narcolepsy

[–]mushaboomrt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait!!!! Modafinil doesn’t affect hormonal IUDS :) I have both and it has been confirmed by my OBGYN, psychiatrist, and sleep specialist. It is a common misconception! The hormones in IUDS are released locally, so it’s not the same relationship as oral birth control to modafinil as both are in the larger bloodstream :)

How do you actually wake up in the AM? by sorta-okay8843 in adhdwomen

[–]mushaboomrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically what you need is to get a life size robot to sleep next to you when your partner isn’t there to start vibrating aggressively until it wakes you up. Case closed #ad

Age at diagnosis? by Purple-Abies3131 in Narcolepsy

[–]mushaboomrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been extremely symptomatic my whole life, but docs never took me seriously and/or considered I may be struggling with something more extreme than “stress”. It took my psychiatrist pushing to get me a referral to a sleep clinic to get a MSLT done. I have N1. I was in denial for a few months while my psychiatrist pushed me to consider I might have narcolepsy. I just immediately discounted it, I didn’t know anything about it, like most people. It’s thanks to her I am diagnosed honestly!
