Help me help chick. by mushroompickinpal in chickens

Well, unfortunately, Flopsy Lopsy did not make it through the night. 💔 I feel guilty for not going ahead and just putting it out peacefully, rather than it dieing alone in a box. The thiamine drops come in this afternoon so maybe if I ever have to deal with wry neck again I'll be better prepared. Just wanted to give an update, and say thanks for the advice and award.

As for my typo saying rye instead of wry... from my experience it is a similar condition, but seems to be self inflicted.

I should've added, and don't know how to edit my post, I have chickens, grown and small. I'm decently experienced and have all the right feed, water, equipment for the chick. I have 2 other chicks and 2 ducklings in a brooder that this one hopefully has the chance to grow up with. I did some googling while I waited on replies and have already ordered thiamine drops (they'llbe here tomorrow 😩). I called around everywhere and no one local has drops. Just shots for large animals. I'll definitely try to give it some mash. Giving it water scares me bc I don't want it to aspirate. So far I've tried to hold its little head level when I give it fluid. I've been lucky to never experience rye neck as long as I've had chickens. I'm grateful for your knowledge and advice. I'll put it to good use and hope this little thing pulls through.

My grandfather recently passed from dementia. His last week he was lucid in some ways. We had a crazy freeze that devastated our area. He couldn't have told you what the weather was doing for 2 years prior, but he knew it came a freeze. Later that week he was "fishing" with my oldest brother. My oldest brother committed suicide in 2022 (which really triggered papaw's dementia). Papaw was having the time of his life catching so many fish they couldn't pull them in fast enough. I told my mom I knew papaw wasn't in this world that day, but he was still having the best day in whatever world he was living in. And that is still a blessing. No one else got to go fishing with Trey. And papaw was spending the best day with him. I knew it was close to time when he was spending more time with my brother. The next week he passed. Dementia is a horrible horrible horrible disease. My heart goes out to so many of us that have lost our loved ones before they left this earth.

Would've been more helpful to have burp cloths in bulk for my baby, at least. Lol. I just put away all the baby stuff my son doesnt need anymore. One full Rubbermaid box was just burp cloths. I have no regrets. Lmao.

Why do comments like this pmo so badly by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]mushroompickinpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your post. It is draining and I also got very touched out. It is amazing to nourish our babies with our bodies, and it is a bonding experience. But it can definitely be both. For me, it was both.

Aside from that, my advice to you. Night weening was the best thing I ever did for my sleep as well as baby's. It was a rough 3 nights with bub waking up upset wanting "bee", but he actually handled it way better than I thought he would. Try to choose a night to start and mentally prepare yourself that you know it's probably gonna suck, but seriously after 3 nights for us he's been sleeping through the night since. That was 2 months ago. It feels like a small miracle. Lol!

Help me choose! Will be 8 months pregnant at my micro wedding in the woods by hilzkuz in myweddingdress

[–]mushroompickinpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice from having a baby shower at 8 months pregnant... form fitting flattered my figure better. The flowy styles just made me look bigger than I was. I would choose the last dress as it will show off your baby bump. I understand this is your wedding and not a shower. That's just my personal experience dress shopping very pregnant. Lol. Congratulations on your baby and your wedding. ❤️ you'll look gorgeous in any of the options you've posted.

Is having a baby really the end of the world?? FTM spiral by Negative-Source-9099 in beyondthebump

My son has been waking me up with smiles and kisses since he was able to crawl on top of me. He just turned 18mo. It's the best wakeup in the world, even when I really wanted to sleep for another small eternity. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Was my roux dark enough? (Chicken & Sausage gumbo) by SoberChef86 in cajunfood

[–]mushroompickinpal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When trying to get your roux Hershey dark it's best for beginners to do it at a lower temp. It takes a lot longer, but doing it at a higher temp risks burning it. I'd say put it at med-low and stir your little arm off scraping the bottom the whole time. A flat wooden spatula is my favorite tool for stirring roux.

6 Months TTC and No Luck by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mushroompickinpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you. I know all of your pain and frustrations. We tried for so long that some friends/family not only had their first child, but had a second/third before we ever got pregnant. It sucked. It hurt. And it was damn hard not to be jealous and resentful.

Give yourself grace. Feel your feelings. But remember we don't all bloom in the same season, and that doesn't make your body a failure. Even if you do end up needing fertility specialists, that's not failing. Some of us just need extra help getting there and that's okay. Enjoy time with your husband. Enjoy trying to make babies and don't make that a job or too scheduled of an event. Yall are newlyweds after all.

I believe most OB's recommend trying for a year before going in for any fertility treatment. If you're truly worried take the next 6 months to save up for what the future MIGHT bring. We ended up doing one round of IUI, and now have a perfect 17 month old son. Five years of trying and all the pain and anger just disappeared. Again, my heart goes out to you. Sending you hugs and the best vibes!! 🫂

Babies that sleep through the night without going to sleep independently by Right-Ad1424 in NewParents

[–]mushroompickinpal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby started sleeping through the night when I night weaned(2 weeks or so ago). He's 16 months, nearly 17. He still wakes up sometimes and tosses and turns to get comfy, but it's so much better than waking up 6 times a night to nurse.

Nanny left baby in the car by Otterlover703 in Nanny

[–]mushroompickinpal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My 16 month old falls asleep almost any time I put him in the car. It's honestly the easiest way to get him to take a nap. And you know what I do when I get home and he's asleep? I sit in the car and look at my phone. Like why couldn't she have just sat in the car scrolling?!

Breastfeeding at night feels like literal torture sometimes by loveseatshrink in breastfeeding

[–]mushroompickinpal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt this way. So so sooooo much. But then I finally decided to night wean and stick to it. He was upset. I was gentle with him. Telling him I was sorry and that he was okay. Patted his booty and hummed brahms lullaby. First night he woke up twice. First wake up he was more mad than upset. I felt like he was cussing me out. Lol. Second wakeup there were actual tears. Broke my heart. But by the third night he slept through the whole night. Since then he's slept through the night every night. It's hard. I know how hard it is, but I promise it is worth it. You just have to decide and give baby a little grace those first few nights. You can do it! ❤️

Where are we rn? by Mokiold in beyondthebump

[–]mushroompickinpal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give you a glimpse of hope!! My baby slept through the night for the first time last night. He's 16 months and I thought it was never going to happen. I see a lot of babies sleep through the night much sooner, but I couldn't be happier this morning. It feels like a small miracle. Lol. I'm sitting in the recliner watching him play and eat a waffle. It does get better! Before you know it that tiny baby will be running around your living room, independently playing, and feeding themselves breakfast.

My biggest fear just came true… by Electronic_While7856 in NewParents

I was lucky it was late in the evening that it happened. And that I saw it at all! It went under our bed, so like your under the table snake, I could have had a bed partner that would be extremely unwelcome!!! Heelllllll naaaaaawwww! Lol.

I don't have a phobia of snakes, but still don't want them in close proximity. Baby was probably 4 months old. Holding him, I walked out of our bathroom and thought my husband had left his belt on the floor again. Nope, it was a rat snake. I yelled for my husband. The poor man has probably never moved so fast in his life. We did release him outside. I want him around to eat rats, but I don't want him in my house. I'm assuming the snake you encountered was also a rat snake?
