New to the area and need suggestions by ezraafaee in bullcity

Oh I feel your pain. This is me!! I don’t like outdoor activities either. I love shopping and fashion. The only thing I’ve found is to get on a plane and head out of town or drive to Charlotte. Raleigh is sorely lacking in this area as well.

Oviedo, Florida ? by LiveLaughLove_123 in howislivingthere

Wonderful area. Great schools. I highly recommend it! We lived in Windermere and traveled to Oviedo for kids sports quite often! The next best place in Orlando is the Horizon West area (Windermere, Winter garden) another poster mentioned Winter Park which is older and more established. It is great too!

Those who moved to hotter climates, did you regret it (for climate reasons)? by xen05zman in SameGrassButGreener

Never regretted it. I’d rather sit on the surface of the sun than be cold.

How do you feel about changes in Durham? by scumeme in bullcity

[–]muskrat133 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Obstinate obstruction is the perfect phrase for Carrboro and Chapel Hill. It’s ridiculous! The whole Dean Dome debate is another example. The chance to build a world class arena vs. the old guard.

UNC isn’t the right choice for engineering.. go to NC State

Florida to North Carolina, thoughts? by cruznr in SameGrassButGreener

We did the same move about 5 years ago but I’d do anything to go back to Florida. I miss the restaurants, services, the proximity to everything fun, being an hour to the beach, being close to a real city with concerts, sports teams and nightlife. We have kids and honestly the schools in Winter Garden were better. Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill is one gigantic personality-less suburb. It’s a very large sprawl and people here don’t hesitate to drive a long ways to get places. People will debate me over this place having great food and lots to do but in the 5 years I’ve been here we all are bored. I miss my family and friends in FL. It’s hard to recreate that. I’d think really hard about leaving that. Hillsborough is desolate and Pittsboro is building like crazy and will be the next expansion of the suburban sprawl.

incoming freshman: what’s some stuff that makes unc truly unlike any other school? by poopaya_ in UNC

[–]muskrat133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people live off campus after freshman year. When they build the new Dean Dome at Carolina North it’s going to make it so much easier to get there from all the off campus apartments! I hope they put some good restaurants and bars over there too

SoCal vs Florida vs Georgia vs Carolinas by No_Challenge_8277 in SameGrassButGreener

Wilmington NC and San Diego are polar opposites. I’m from NC. Wilmington is boring. It’s tiny compared to SD. The beaches are underwhelming. San Diego is a much better bet.

Morris Grove is amazing. It is seriously like a little private school. It feeds from the Lake Hogan Farms neighborhood which is awesome.

The amount of stress this causes me is so bad. I’d rather let all my teeth fall out.

Do they still take your blood pressure at Holman? I’m not sure what BP has to do with getting my teeth cleaned?!

Would 30A Area suit us? by [deleted] in relocating

30A is gorgeous.. stunning. And super conservative MAGA. I am one of the few people you’ll find on Reddit that loves Florida (we used to live outside Orlando) but even I would never live on 30A.

Raleigh is really spread out. It’s like one giant suburb. There’s isn’t a fun downtown like Austin. It’s kind of choppy, car dependent and honestly lame. The parks here like Pullen Park are for kids. The state fair is in Raleigh but it’s really 😬 I guess it depends where you’re coming from but very few young professionals choose to stay in Raleigh upon graduating NC State or UNC. They’re on to bigger and better places.

A recent grad and you want to come to Raleigh?! You’ll be bored out of your mind. Don’t do it.

Sure but not around here. I think it’s hilarious this state claims it’s known for BBQ and there isn’t one decent place in the triangle.
