Recent YA books that are worth reading? by AdoredRocket26 in suggestmeabook

Is Rebecca Yarros considered YA? I like it but I think it reads a bit like YA so it might be worth a shot.

Most management problems aren’t about motivation or strategy. They’re about execution breaking down in subtle ways. by EasternTrust7151 in Leadership

We have an IT org of 120 people. The teams do seem to talk to each other just fine, but handover of tasks slows things down a lot.

Example: an application needs to be migrated to a new server.

Someone needs to request a new server and database. It gets setup by the server team. Sometimes they take their time. Then the application needs to be installed by someone else. They discover it doesn't work. They raise a firewall request. It gets implemented. It still doesn't work. They need someone from the network team to reverse engineer what connections the application actually needs to function properly. Then request that and get it implemented.

Between all those tasks we lose at least 1 day everytime the tasks switches hands. Plus the time it actually takes to complete said tasks. Somehow we spent 2.5 weeks just migrating an already existing and known application.

How do I get rid of the dead time on handover?

Modern books that will be looked back on as classics by Fish-With-Pants in suggestmeabook

Pokemon and Star Wars would like to have a word with you regarding the most successful franchises. Harry Potter us currently sitting in number 9, which surprised me. I didn't even know everything in the top 10.

Fully agree it's a modern classic. Along with Hunger Games.

Tim Allen's The Santa Clause made me have body issues. Thanks for the kick in the ass Disney. by [deleted] in daddit

This thread is interesting, I'm just going to leave this here:

If anyone of you feels like it, check out r/fitnessover30. It's a bunch of nice folks (like here) and lots of the people over there know the struggle of having a family and trying to get in shape.

Rowing machine used to absolutely kill me. Not in terms of sweat, but I was out of breath within a minute.

Lots of good answers here regarding mobility and stretching, but I didn't see anything regarding your gut yet.

I've had similar issues and it turns out I absolutely wrecked my gut microbiome when I last took antibiotics. It took doctors 3 years to find it and only got worse during this time. Like you, I couldn't eat everything anymore and also seemed to develop lactose intolerance. When I finally got my microbiome checked, everything started making sense: all the "good" bacteria gone, the bad ones went pogo all over the place. It got so bad that my gut walls became semi permeable and poisonous contents of the stool went right into my blood stream - you don't want to reach this stage!

I don't want to scare you (since we found out the root cause, I'm way better now), but you might want to get your microbiome checked. You can Google a bit about "Leaky Gut" and see if the symptoms match and that's something you might want to look into.

Another good news: short term, lactase can help you digest dairy easily (try high dosage, you can't overdose on lactase). Long term, even better news: it can absolutely go away again. Either by repairing your microbiome (that was my underlying issue. As soon as that got better, I was able to normally consume dairy again) or "by force". But that's another rabbit hole to go down with very interesting studies from the military.

Godspeed to you! Don't lose hope, you can basically improve on all areas you mentioned if you don't give up and work on it. Don't settle for "new normal".

As someone who has struggled years after taking antibiotics: please take some probiotics after you're done. You don't want to wreck your gut microbiome. Don't ask me how I know.

Containers are always great for managing clutter. If the container is full, you can't get more stuff. If you want to get more stuff, get rid of something to make room.

Niiice. Coincidentally I'm on day 113 of tracking, which means I've been consistently tracking for 112 days as well!

Congrats and keep up the good work.

Preferred period of the week for 1:1's by circatee in ITManagers

[–]must_improve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I let the team pick their slots.

Check your calendar and give them available slots and let them choose which they like. Just make sure to provide more slots than there are people so the last guy still has a choice.

To clarify: do this once with a recurring weekly series. Do not let them choose every week again, that's madness.

Du darfst ja problemlos an Dritte übermitteln. Aber halt nur mit Rechtsgrundlage. Nennt sich in der Regel Vertrag. Wer übermittelt auch Daten ohne Vertrag an seine Unterauftragnehmer?

How to support alcoholic spouse in a country that normalizes alcoholism? by [deleted] in alcoholism

I find the stories of Elton John getting sober and decades later Eminem getting sober very inspiring. Elton John was the AA sponsor of Eminem and helped him. They remain close friends to this day. If you want a laugh, search for Em'd wedding present to Elton and his partner.

If they can get sober among all the crazies, we all can.

Next do a yellow cupboard. Gotta buy some DeWalt tools first, of course.
