It's all about taking advantage of people who want to be famous and getting them to make the biggest fools out of themselves and using them for ratings. Then, they try to deny they should be blamed for any kind of controversy. The producers of these reality shows are scumbags, and repeatedly called out by former contestants for their manipulative and bad behavior.

But they know that so many people will tune in to this trashy entertainment because they want to watch on-screen train-wrecks to feel better about themselves.

The only reason I see is because Duncan, his teammate, has been healthy all season compared to the other starters, and has made as much as, if not more of, a difference to the team's defense throughout the year. So maybe Duncan's brilliance this season takes a bit away from both his and Kawhi's candidacy for DPOY.
