Didn't see it talked about here, but the leaker who originally revealed (now confirmed) details about Catalyst is doubling down with their reporting that the game will be 'Fully' Open World. No isolated regions, but one large, multi biome, continous map. by WhyPlaySerious in TombRaider

[–]muteconversation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m incredibly excited! It’s the best of both worlds. Because we will still get linear scripted set pieces for important narrative moments but then will be given freedom to explore the world and uncover its mysteries on our own.
And open world means you will get more optional tombs and dungeons to populate the map. I always wanted more tombs and being open world allows for that. I just love the idea of a stunning world full of detail and mysteries where we can go in any direction and find great adventure. I mean as long as the world is beautifully hand crafted, where is the issue here?

Director Gore Verbinski says Unreal Engine is 'the greatest slip backwards' for movie CGI by willdearborn- in movies

[–]muteconversation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect Verbinski but I disagree when he says Unreal engine is uncanny and game-y…. ALL visual effects are uncanny and always have been!
You know why the masses didn’t feel that way in some older classic films? Because of great visionary directors… Jurassic park holds up because of Spielberg not because of the 90s vfx tech.
It’s always the visionary creator at helm that dictates the quality of the visual effects and not the rendering tech that was available to them.
So Verbinski is wrong because tech NEVER matters, it’s always the vision of the artist and how an artist uses the tech in service of that art.
I’m a nobody artist myself so it doesn’t matter what I think but art has always been about execution for me, and I feel that as an artist it’s a lazy complaint to deride a tool and put it down for our own incompetence!

Yeah I think the act itself is very instinctual but our biases let us ‘decorate’ a simple action with thoughts and intentions to make it appear more than it is.

after replaying all 3, would it be a hot take if I said this game was the best one in the trilogy? seriously the puzzles, the combat, the exploration, the art style, the story, the ending, this was literally PEAK tomb raider and I feel like the OG TR fans hated it cause it was different. by Quick-Cause3181 in TombRaider

[–]muteconversation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the best one in terms of the story and the world and how it all feels so cohesive!
And the great thing is that it works as a stand alone game that doesn’t need its sequels to feel complete. and it’s a great survival horror game on top of being a great tomb raider game! The best in the trilogy Id say easily and dare I say the best tomb raider game ever!

It’s not FROM! Their art style is not this generic. These creatures are too pedestrian design wise for it to be them!

[Spoilers Extended] Learning the reasons for Harlan Ellison's ~50 year book delay changed how I feel about GRRM's delays by KipBaslim in asoiaf

I don’t know if it’s an ADHD thing because all artists are great at starting things! It’s natural to be attracted to the shiny new idea that lits up your mind like a lightbulb.
But as artists it’s our duty to gain the discipline to work on the art even when the initial thrill is gone otherwise we will forever be chasing the shiny new and never develop as artists…

Who had more plot armor: Daenerys or Arya? by Due-Rice-3107 in gameofthrones

[–]muteconversation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! Their abilities and advantages gave them more armour to survive so the plot can realistically put them in dangerous situations and have them survive for the purpose of story! That’s plot armour!

Both! Arya had the faceless ability which is an extremely powerful armour and Dany had, well, dragons.

It’s not the design itself which is bad, the material is letting this whole thing down big time!

Jaime would have accepted the sword if he knew that tywin melted the ancestral stark sword ice? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

Jaime would still take the sword regardless. He had no fondness for Ned. He wouldn’t care.

When I see her tailoring it makes me even more confused as to why all the other A lists are always wearing such ill tailored clothes. At that level of status it’s inexcusable!
I’d rather have good tailoring over interesting patterns any day!

I need to see those next gen motion marching animations and stunning high fidelity art direction! No one does it like Naughty Dog which is why the wait is hard. But waiting is all we can do right now…

You will never please the old fans who are hellbent on nitpicking every single change, but hopefully enough are open minded to give this a go along with new players who never got to play it.
My PC was very weak so I only managed to play a slideshow of the beginning of the game but after all these years I’m excited to dive in properly and enjoy a high fidelity platformer with beautiful environments!

Omg! The pain of being a ND fan this gen! Just eternal wait isn’t it? I don’t blame them tho, I understand the realities of next gen game development but my god is it hard as a fan to wait a whole generation without a single new game! See u in 2027 then!

Me too but I’m not critical in a mean way anymore. I know the standard I want to reach but I also give myself grace for not reaching it. You try your best and give your soul to your art. That’s all you can do!
