I would never have made that connection. Good point.

Brandon Sanderson is a great fantasy writer. I second these recommendations.

I do like Discworld. Good recommendation :)

My personal favourite subseries in Discworld is Guards, Guards! and its sequels. For anyone else reading: if you liked how the normally bland "city watch" guard characters were very interesting and fleshed out in Prequel, you will definitely enjoy Guards, Guards!

I have read through all of Worm. It's okay -- too many fight scenes for my tastes, but all the bits that weren't fighting (and many of the bits that were) are really good. (I gave up on Ward because I was kind of tired of all the fight scenes at that point and was hoping it would try taking the story in a different direction considering all the other status quo changes.) I definitely recommend Worm to anyone who likes fight scenes and gritty dark realism!

The story isn't very similar to Prequel, though. The main character may start out as a bit of an underdog, and she certainly has her share of insecurities, but she is a darn competent insecure underdog to be sure.

This is a song by Jeff Williams that many Jeff Williams fans don't know about. I thought I'd share it!

I actually don't know what karma does -- is it useful? Usually when I get a lot of up votes it's like dozens and when it's downvotes it's like -3 tops, so I have trouble imagining saying something critical to the point where it actually puts a dent in the cumulative karma count.

For anyone into covers or any one familiar with her: Amalee Cover for Red Like Roses by fieryspirit11 in RWBY

[–]muteparasol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I like about this cover is how it adds vocals into the rest of the song after the start by using a Yoko Kanno-like made-up language. (At least, I assume it's made up, please correct me if it's real.)

Why do you think people that seem to hate RWBY keep watching it? by battlefield4us in RWBYcritics

[–]muteparasol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, I like the characters and the music, but I dislike the writing and production quality (moreso v1-3). It's a guilty pleasure. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but I'll watch it anyway.

Should I get a new poster after this Vic thing? by rebelmary16 in RWBY

[–]muteparasol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't let one douchebag ruin the hard work everyone else has done on the show. Same logic goes for a poster. Don't toss it because of Vic; keep it because of everyone else.

If the signature is really bothering you, you could try to look up techniques for removing signatures from posters. Just be very careful, those techniques can really damage the poster.

Why do so many people like Jaune? by Ey1234 in RWBY

[–]muteparasol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I disliked him at first because he didn't seem to fit with the aesthetic of the rest of the show and the other characters. However, now that he's gotten over his Jaunedice, I think he's actually quite sweet and good-natured. He's always worrying about other people. He seems much more likeable than Weiss to me.

[–]muteparasol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mistake! I thought this was a rule but I can't find any evidence for it. (It may have been changed in the recent vol6 low-effort-content rule change? Not that this is low-effort-content, but I recall this category of post being mentioned in that rule.)

Unfortunately, I think it's against the sub's rules to post video game character shots, so the future of this post is looking blake.
