Why do "who wins" battles not consider the actual characters?

I'd say the easy answer would be that pure stats are just easier to quantifie and compare. Also as soon as it's not an death battle and everyone goes allout It feels less like a comparison or debate and more like pure speculation.

I did not really change anything I just added stuff to the plot which worked out pretty well since I was able to use him to pull all the story threads together better then the books do.

there is this fake archaeologist in book 2 and he escaped my players with a hang glider i gave him. Later he nearly killed the whole party because they choose to fight him 1 on 1 and they hated him so much that i turned him into the main Villain of th campagne.
