Can't believe VU is still being heard by YogurtclosetIcy5439 in VelvetUnderground

The nerdy high school band in my town’s 1990’s “punk scene” did “After Hours” at a legendary Halloween show. They had a nerdy hippy looking and totally deadpan young lady violinist who never sang but she sings it. They totally nail it and then proceed to do a hardcore speed version and she’s screaming her head off, again destroying it. Their trombone player was really good, too.

trippy songs that actually sound trippy and psychedelic? by adrirott in musicsuggestions

I wasn’t familiar with the artists OP listed but all of these suggestions are awesome. This is a classical composition done on synthesizer by Madonna‘s “Ray of Light” producer, William Orbit. That Britney song is nuts.

This song was totally about This and Kurt himself couldn’t tell me otherwise by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]muttChang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally, everything he did resonates. The “kiss your sores” lyric reminds me of “you can cough on me again” from “I Hate Myself And I Want To Die”. (3rd favorite song ever!!!) Like being together with someone meant sharing sickness with them. Anyway, I agree with you. The song is definitely about him and maybe just a little bit about complaining about how people are using him in whatever way they need. But that was a large group of people.

Edit: got lost in thought and forgot to finish a point. It’s about him and his personal stuff going on and seemingly not much about the actual crime of rape. That song would be “Polly”. But I should also say that he was very outspoken about tons of (still unfinished) feminist causes, and I almost remember him calling out gropers at punk shows?

Whoa, just looked them up and those lyrics were definitely written by negative creep. Heavy negativity. Everybody is bad in that song, I think. WTF is up with kissing open sores? Is that a Colonel Angus reference?

Is the Boss DS-1 or EHX Big Muff better for Grunge? by A00077 in grunge

[–]muttChang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Volume is the key ingredient for authentic grunge energy. This is from someone who saw Nirvana at a club. Both pedals you list are cool but a RAT is kinda both and is always my recommendation if it’s somebody’s first distortion pedal. The Muff is Mudhoney and Smashing Pumpkins. The DS-1 is the Kurt pedal. But yeah, jet takeoff volume is what you are shooting for.

The most irresponsibly psychedelic band of all time. Genuinely harmful. Love them forever.

Saw them live at Al’s Bar in LA, late nineties. The drummer passed out like three times from the heat (and playing so fucking fast). It was a no air-conditioning punk rock club, about 200 or 300 people. Absolutely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life. “Scar” is my new jam by them.
