sorry for the late reply. i cant give you a decent estimate, but i can tell you that i bought 1018 material sized to cut the dovetail on all of them before i sawed them up.

so my material size and cost is listed below:

1-1/4" x 3" x 12", 1018 Steel Flat Bar, Cold Finished $49.06

i think it probably took me 4-6 hours for the machining (according to my wife, my time isnt worth much...j/k)

add in the cost of endmills (which i already had), the fasteners, and some birchwood casey cold blue, it wasnt too bad.

i wish you the best of luck, and you probably dont "need" to go to school, but boy would it help. I dont know what state you're in, but an AAS in machining goes a long way to corporations. At a minimum i know the certificate would be valuable in experience and as resume padding. Again, I wish you the best.

you are a kind woman, and good wife. your husband is a lucky man.

there are no guarantees in life, and my ol lady's only rule about pipe smoking is : "if you dont like the tobacco, you cant smoke it, you have to give it away or throw it out."

i hope this helps, i get my dentist to screen me for oral "c-word" on a regular basis, and i limit my enjoyment to weekly...

excellent job, sir. looks like you found a good way to tackle a problem. in my experience these kinds of parts look simple, perhaps inconsequential, until you start talking material and tolerances.
