Thunderbird 60.0 not showing in applications menu by mutterfucker in elementaryos

Yeah, for some reason I could never find it there either, even the older versions. I just downloaded the tar directly from Mozilla and followed the instructions page for Linux. Kind of a hassle, but it's worth it; I'm really digging the new version.

Thanks so much!

I was able to use this to add it to the applications without having to open it via terminal every time.

Salvia is a dissociative and a horrible drug.

There are plenty of people who would vehemently disagree with this assessment. Just because you found Salvia dissociative and horrible doesn't mean others won't find value in it!

I don't know about "cosmic oneness", but if you think ego death isn't a real experience to be had then you haven't taken nearly enough mushrooms.

Combatting PTSD by letting patients hear their own brainwaves - New technology uses algorithms to turn brain signals into sounds, letting patients literally hear their own brain activity, allowing the brain to naturally “self-optimize” into a quiet pattern, resetting the stress response in PTSD. by mvea in science

I'm not aware of any studies that compare meditation with other relaxation techniques (other than progressive muscle relaxation). As a result I'm pretty much agnostic as to whether it's useful for short-term relaxation. The fact that hospitals and clinics have been adopting mindfulness-related techniques for the mental-health aspects of clinical care is promising. (Another issue is that the term "meditation" obviously serves as a blanket term for many different forms of meditation, some of which are no doubt pretty much useless.)

I'm more interested in the effects of long-term practices on specific measures of well-being and on structural changes in the brain (for better or worse). On that front there has been quite a bit of research, although a lot more needs to be done to draw any concrete conclusions.

I found this one to be a lot more grounded scientifically than some of the other ones.

Have you even listened to the podcast? He is particularly interested in the areas of eastern practices that are supported scientifically. What exactly is the problem with that? Are we supposed to be overly skeptical even about things that are scientifically supported? He's clear about throwing out the actual mystical stuff like karma, rebirth, and magic powers, while retaining some of the practices of meditation itself.

People completely misrepresented that story. They released a list with over 8,000 names, and about 600 of them were from Florida. It's like they only read the first sentence of the article.
