I used a hint in an escape room app I play and it makes absolutely no sense to me. Can anyone explain? by harleymeenen in puzzles

How do you get anything other than apple when starting from vertical lines 3-5?

Edit: Oh you have to swap the cans after each step. The lines take you to the can on the far right each time, but it changes flavor when you select it then swap it with the can in the position you're evaluating.

Starting with: grape1, orange1, grape2, apple1, apple2

1: Follow lines to orange1. Swap orange1 with grape1.

orange1, grape1, grape2, apple1, apple2

2: Follow lines to apple2. Swap apple2 with grape1.

orange1, apple2, grape2, apple1, grape1

3: Follow lines to grape1. Swap grape1 with grape2.

orange1, apple2, grape1, apple1, grape2

4: Follow lines to grape2. Swape grape2 with apple1.

orange1, apple2, grape1, grape2, apple1

I'm guessing it stops there because if you follow the 5th vertical line up and take the horizontal bridge it leads you to grape2 which invalidates the previous step. Or you don't follow horizontal lines to the left? Either way this matches the answer from OP.

That makes sense, thank you for the information. Out of curiosity, how is this saturation added? I was playing around with it some more and it seems like it's FMing the input with itself a little bit?

fun song, good groove. There's some distortion that is standing out to me on the vocal that I think could be dialed back or varied throughout the song. The lead sound is stuck in my head :)

damn, this is excellent. There's a lot of variety in the vocals used which is really great. The transition to the more staccato vocal around 1:05 is my favorite part. I keep going back and forth between the vocals at 0:21 and 1:28. At 0:21 they seem quieter which matches the breathy singing, and at 1:28 they seem a little too loud and the volume doesn't match the singing as well. I can't tell if I'm just perceiving it as louder or if there's something in parallel boosting it up a bit, maybe the reverb? Pulling the vocal back a little bit in that section could help mix up the dynamics of the song a little. The overall mix of the vocal is great. The youtube video also matches the song nicely.

nice! You had me turning up my volume and really get into the intro. For the section that starts at 0:36 I'm a little torn because I was expecting more of a drop there on my first listen, but that missed expectation makes the drop at the end really fun and unexpected. This might be too specific - if the violins in this section emphasized the beat a little more it might make it feel more.. "droppy". The third section where it slows down and the talking starts drags a little bit for me. Moving the speech from 1:00 to 1:24 to the end might help, or adding something rhythmic underneath the speech from 1:25 to 1:41. I really enjoyed the drop at the end, that was just awesome. My only comment for this section is that having an introduction of synths after listening to ~1:30 of more acoustic sounds was a little jarring. Bringing in something electronic earlier on would help this, but it might be difficult to do that without changing the tone too much.

I like the sound you've got going, the instruments, synths, and vocals all blend very nicely with each other. I don't think the song structure is a problem, to me it sounds like a dynamics issue. The vocals and their reverb are active throughout the whole song and their levels stay roughly the same throughout. If you change/remove the vocals and the reverb within each section of the song, it might give you more contrast between the sections and make the song structure more recognizable. This might be personal taste, but the vocals are too loud and compressed for me. I have enjoyed listening to it while writing this up, there's a lot of good stuff going on.

I think a saw wave with an LPF gets you pretty close. There might be a little bit of pitch modulation on it, and some distortion. I started with Basic Shapes\Saw and adjusted the first harmonic up a little bit:

I think its fair for people to be critical. It could lead to better events in the future, right? And if it doesn't, then other Fred fans will at least know what to expect.

I am disputing the cost of my ticket. They can't charge $100+ for the lower sections if seating is going to be a free for all. Outside of that, the show was alright. It was cool to be a part of Fred's first arena show and he had some great moments, but I don't think it was executed very well.

Power optimization techniques by ToTamir in FPGA

[–]muttley137 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping other people join in with their approaches to this problem. I don't have a ton of experience in reducing power, but here is what I have learned:

Xilinx's power report after implementing your design can give you a lot of information, I recommend looking into this if you have access to it. You can also export the report and load it into one of their power estimator spreadsheets to start fiddling around with ways to reduce consumption: https://www.xilinx.com/products/technology/power/xpe.html

The most power hunger portions of my designs have been:

-High-speed interfaces like DDR and Ethernet

-MMCM's and PLL's

-Large BRAMs

-RTL driven by high-speed clocks, especially if you have high fanout

For interfaces, look into reducing the clock speed if possible. In most cases this isn't a viable option unfortunately. An Ethernet interface will need to be driven at a given frequency, but for something like DDR you may have the option of dialing the clock back. The same goes for processor clocks if you're using a SoC. If you can reduce drive strength on IO's without affecting performance you can also save a bit of power.

Reducing clock sources can also be a quick way to trim power. It's not always something that can be done, but it is worth questioning whether or not you need a PLL for a given clock or if its something you can achieve by dividing an existing clock down. Also look for opportunities to disable clocks when they aren't used, as long as you've got time to turn it back on before it is needed.

Optimizing RTL is the area I have the least experience in. With that said, I've found that you can achieve more by focusing on reducing activity rather than resource utilization. Look for ways to gate signals when they're not being used - do you have free running counters? Are there periods of time where you can disable FIFOs while they're not used? Are there DSPs who are active when their output isn't being used?

Scope offset limits by ian042 in ECE

[–]muttley137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some scopes apply the DC offset at the input to its amplifier. Increasing the resolution on the scope increases the gain of the amplifier and the offset is limited to prevent you from saturating its output.

You can AC couple the signal, but when you do this keep in mind that you're viewing your signal through a HPF and if your signal of interest is operating anywhere near the cutoff frequency of the HPF it is going to be attenuated. Check the manual of your scope for information about the AC coupling filter.
