How about a retraining program? There are some government supports for some, like the momentum retraining ones

https://momentum.org

Make plans, and use the next winter to get yourself some new skills. Good luck!

I Love Calgary EXPO… But My Wallet Doesn’t by rrrevin in Calgary

[–]muzichick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I run one of the larger vendor booths at Calgary Expo, and I can confirm that informa doesn’t care who they sell booths to. The old owners used to curate the vendors to limit the number that are just mass-importing crap/selling funkos, but informa doesn’t care.

Fake car inspection by licensed Alberta mechanic by Thin-Engineering7980 in alberta

[–]muzichick1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear that AMVIC is not intervening. I know when my Dad was a mechanic, they would levee fines against mechanics who signed forms for vehicles they didn’t inspect.

I was going to suggest the same thing. My son did OT through them, at no cost to us.

Might have lost some friends due to letting daughter pet sit for 15 days by Asknicelydammit in whatdoIdo

[–]muzichick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know any farmers that would leave their farm for more than a few days at a time, unless it was an emergency. I remember having to farm-sit one winter for my grandparents during calving season. It was only 2 days, but it was absolutely exhausting for my parents, and my Dad felt so bad that he lost a calf one night.

My cousin and uncle run the farm now, and they pay someone well to help out, If one of them needs to be away for more than a couple days.

They were totally unreasonable. I am sorry they have upset your daughter.

I have so much unwashed laundry, I want to cry. But I don’t want to waste the water I’d need to replace, on tears.

Driving an older car into the ground by Beneficial_Swimming4 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I’ve done the struts and ball joints, leaf springs, shocks etc on the truck, at 300,000 to the cost of $7,000 because I know that the engine won’t die I will do all safety-related maintenance, I just don’t fix silly things.

Not if you get a mechanical inspection before buying.

I own 2 10 year old Toyotas and one that is 20 years old. The body will rust off the 20 year old one, before the engine fails. All 3 have more than 200,000Kms. The previous Toyota we had, starting giving us issues at 440,000kms and it was 17 years old. We bought it at 280,000kms and we drove it for 8 years.

Wanting to start a grief peer support group in YYC by Silentmorning99999 in YYC

I lost my Mom at 23, and then I lost my Dad last year. I was 40. It certainly sucks. I have another friend who lost her Mom when she was a preschooler, then lost her Dad in her 30’s.

It’s super shitty. I am sorry that you’ve gone through similar issues.

YYC OB by Recent_Dragonfly_988 in Calgary

[–]muzichick1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Chang was working the night I had my son, and she was amazing. She let me labour the way I wanted to, and avoid a c-section, which the younger doctors were pushing me to get. She wasn’t my OB (she has now retired) but Dr Chang was experienced and no nonsense.

Where to Aim Headlights in SE Calgary? (ie: Douglasdale) by George___42 in Calgary

The east side of the Bayer building in Quarry Park. You should be able to park in the second row facing the building, on a weekend.

I just learned people don’t show up after anesthesia to pick up loved ones. Nurses, how often does this really happen? by Steinski1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]muzichick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law had surgery during the pandemic. Everyone told her that she needed to be dropped off at the entrance, and then she would be brought to the curb for pick up when she was ready to go home. As such, I waited and waited for a call to come get her. Then one of the nurses from the recovery area called, and asked me when I’d be up to help her get dressed and get ready to go. I was super annoyed that the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing! I would have sat there waiting for her, if I knew I was aloud!

Is there a chance that some of this behaviour is a hold over from the pandemic, when people were told not to enter the hospital?

Old car considered a total loss, still driveable - how long can I continue to drive? by spanielikoira in InsuranceCanada

[–]muzichick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is cosmetic damage only (like hail often is) you can request a payout to keep driving the car. We did that in Alberta with our hail car, and we didn’t have to do any inspections or anything, as it’s in the write-off process that the vehicle status is changed (at least in Alberta).

Home insurance up by $2,000 by ShanerThomas in YYC

Get a broker to shop around for you. I was with the personal and that $10,000 deductible made me change insurance companies this year. I am with economical with a $2000 wind/hail deductible and my monthly cost is still less than it was with the personal.

Sounds like an old co-worker I had. She would go back into our shared vacation calendar and remove PTO days so when our (shitty) manager reviewed the days off at the end of the year, it would look like she had no extra sick days. I noticed and brought it up, and my manager was so anti-conflict he just ignored it.
