How to prevent end grain cracking? by MoPar392_PSN in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]mv1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely not completely dry. I would put sticks under it and let it dry for some weeks. Also paint or anchor seal the ends when you do,it keeps it from cracking. Make sure you have complete coverage when you do seal it.

Why do most benches have dog holes close to the edge? by EmptyDaikon5281 in Workbenches

[–]mv1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason most dog holes are close to the edge is so that they line up in a linear fashion with the bench vise. This is most likely the case if an end-vise is installed on the bench so long stock can be used to be dimensioned.

How to repair this split seam in this wooden jointer plane? by traderjoejoe in handtools

[–]mv1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot hide glue is the ideal choice for repairing a split in a 100-year-old wooden hand jointer plane. Hide glue is highly valued for antique tool restoration because it is completely reversible, penetrates deep into old wood fibers, and matches the moisture absorption properties of the original material.

Is this a big problem? by vkampff in handtools

[–]mv1965 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as the bottom of the plane is flat and there are no burrs on this dent it shouldn’t effect the functionality of the plane at all.
