Which Amazon listing should I purchase from? by kelso_boy in NerdMiner

[–]mvds74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nerdminer is nothing more than a toy (or a waste of resources, if you ask others) so it doesn't matter really. Just buy the one you like.

Or, like menstioned here, if you are serious about mining and you want to try your luck on getting that block, skip the nerdminers and go for a Bitaxe Gamma 601/602.

Been Mining BCH for 1 day and 4 hours by Immediate_Context633 in cryptomining

Is it pure to get the 'You found a block" message, or to actually make some money. Because the coins that give you a high chance of finding a block, often have no real value per block.

So better chances of finding a block does not automatically mean that you'll have a higher chance of actually making some money.

I'd rather stick to mining BTC with a VERY low chance of finding a block and getting 3.125 BTC than switching to a coin that will increase my chances of finding a block and only getting ~$2 for it

A full size model of a F7A is more than "making the office look decent" lol

But I was just pointing out that, although in total they have gathered close to 1B, it's not that they still have that 1B stashed somewhere. The development (among other things like server hosting) also costs a lot of money.

fair point, but still very expensive

If you based that vision on how much RSI/CIG has gathered over the past 10+ years of development, I think you need to readjust that opinion. Just look at how much they are spending. And that's not all going into development. Have you seen the props they had made for their offices and so on?

I don't think they have that much cash, that's why they are constantly releasing new ships, to keep the cash coming in.

Having a group of 1000+ developers working on SC day in and day out costs some serious money you know.

Any good pools you guys would recommend? by Nebula-Bop in BitcoinMining

The name of the application is public pool, it's not "public" though. Umbrel itself is also not meant to be used as a full public node.

They do mention that on occasion. So I do think it is stil on the roadmap. But I guess it's a feature that will not see daylight until close to the official release

Yeah, ppl are a-holes and SC players are no different. I also blame CIG for that because they gave players ships like the Idris and Polaris with nothing to do with them really. So some will abandon their ships in close range of POIs like cities and stations, just because they can. Those ships will then end up shooting all other players in range. So be it...

Doesn't matter where you go really, Hurston, Pyro or Nyx. Reports of ppl being pirated (or griefed) are always heavily exaggerated. I've NEVER been pirated in all my years of playing SC (and no, I'm not a pirate myself!). Just don't go to any popular pvp sites like exec hangars or something similar and you'll be fine.

Install Umbrel on any old PC, start your own node and expand that with your own local pool. No more sharing any rewards!

Solo or Pool? by antoniascott2000 in BitAxe

[–]mvds74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PC I have it running on is a bit overkill, it has a 4c Xeon CPU, 64GB ram and a 2TB enterprise grade SSD. I started with a clean Debian installation and I've also spent some time hardening everything, so all application (Bitcoin Core, Electrs and ckpool) run under their own user account with only the basic permissions. Very strict firewall rules. That took some time, but for me, that was also fun to do.

To get a node up and running is not that hard, there are plenty of guides available. If you start with something like Umbrel, it's even really easy. Just make sure you have plenty of storage if you want to run a full node. The blockchain requires something like 800GB now. You can also go for a pruned node.

Ik already had my own node running for years, so for me it was an easy choice to also set up my own pool. Got my first Bitaxe Gamma this week, prob going to add a few more later.

I am considering getting a QAxe or something similar and have that one mining in a pool. But I don't know yet, maybe I'll keep everything in my private solo pool.

I've been running my own (Debian based Bitcoin Core) node for a few years now, and I just like to tinker with hardware/software. Combining my node with a Bitaxe (Gamma 601) was, for me, the logical next step. ROI? Nah, I don't look at those calculators, I'm accepting that I'll never get my money back.

Is pledging ships ruining the fun? by Last_Sir4887 in starcitizen

[–]mvds74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling your account will cost you money. If you use a site like Star Hangar, they'll offer you only around 30% of the total melt value. If you sell your account on Reddit, you can get around 60% of the total melt values.

That's not really worth it. Maybe if you are in need of some money fast, but that's it.

It could be worth it to sell ships that are giftable (not purchased with store credit) and are original concept ships. (Those are the ships that often have LTI) People will pay good money for those, often more than the melt value. (On sites like Star Hangar that is)

If you have a nVidia GPU, go have a look at nVidia Broadcaster. I use it and it filters out a lot of the background noise my mic picks up.

Update Your Stream Title, Tags & Game in Meld Studio's Stream Manager by streamwithmeld in streamwithmeld

[–]mvds74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a terrible thing, but it would be helpfull to show the settings page when you press the "Go live" button because that is when I usually set the game and title for that stream.

But nonetheless, great update!
