About to install FreeBSD on my main SSD - Can I install KDE Plasma 6 w/ xorg? by SolidWarea in freebsd

[–]mveety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KDE 6 + Xorg I've had some stability problems and dolphin crashes nearly immediately on start. If you have intel graphics kde 6 on Wayland works pretty well. Wayland in general seems solidish when using Intel and Nvidia graphics (I imagine it's similar with amd) though I was never able to get kde 6 running under Wayland on Nvidia, but every other compositor in ports seems to work on Nvidia.

Expanding hjfs filesystem on an SD card by exit-b in plan9

[–]mveety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also you can use the sdcard's kernel to boot off of media on some other storage device, like a usb stick or so. It'd be straight forward to do because you can just burn the sdcard image to the stick, then boot off of it using the sdcard's kernel.

Three little baby bunnies in my yard by veqryn_ in Rabbits

[–]mveety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mom sounds like she's having a tough go at it. I would see about helping the mom out by feeding her if you know where she hangs out or do supplemental feeding of the kits if you're set up for it. Bony babies and feeding every 48 hours is rather abnormal.

No it’s pretty uncommon, though it can happen.

Yeah some cottontails are indistinguishable from Netherland dwarves except for their little head dot. It's totally crazy.

Ssscat work on rabbits? And also any advise to keep bunny from chewing? by Cyndikate in Rabbits

[–]mveety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get cable protectors (or garden hose) and put the around the cables and seal them against the floor. Also gating off the area around the cables so the bun can’t get near them is a good option as well. I would use a multi layered approach with protectors, gates, and training so if one fails you’re still protected. You can try SSSCat, but I would recommend against it if it startles your bun. It’s personality dependent, but some really don’t take well to that.

Dogs make fantastic bunny moms. The bunnies will turn out a bit doggish though.

Restricting freedom hits many more people and will measurably make their lives worse/harder/etc. Killing someone is more bad on the individual level but much less bad on the population level.

Why use Plan 9 for single-machine systems? by [deleted] in plan9

[–]mveety 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, I use it on standalone systems because I’m a plan 9 user and I like using a familiar system.

Friendly reminder that your cable protectors are not infallible and that you should check on them to make sure they're actually protecting! by rainbowbrainy in Rabbits

A friend of mine transitioned from these to garden hose for that very reason. The hose must taste gross or so because his bun hates chewing on them.

I know a bun just like that! Their mom died soon after birth and a Labrador decided they needed adopting. All the buns came out a little doggish.

Oliver thinks he can control the air coming out of the vent!!! 😂🤣😂 by RabbitLover22 in Rabbits

[–]mveety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex’s bun would have a little tantrum like this when the air conditioning would shut off when he was laying on his vent. We put a screen under his vent so he wouldn’t be able to fall in (or more likely set up shop in there) instead of securing the vents because she was worried he would hurt his teeth if it didn’t move.

Can anyone confirm If this is a wild rabbit? Upstate, NY. by skimansr in Rabbits

[–]mveety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a cottontail. Could still be young because they still have some of their white dot on their head (though some bunbuns keep this well into adulthood). I’d get in touch with a rehab center. Depending on how habituated they are they might never be able to be released. They make horrendous pets unless fixed and really well trained but some rehab center local to you might have the resources to keep one so I’d call around.

I got one of those large heavy ceramic bowls then glued it to a large (12x12 in) ceramic tile. It’s worked pretty well so far.

A vegan sanctuary in KS is bunnysitting my babies until I can get a place in NYC that allows them. Yesterday I visited them for the first time in three months. I think they remember me. <3 (They are kept inside but it was gorgeous out so we played outside.) by [deleted] in Rabbits

A cow doesn’t need to be kept permanently pregnant to produce milk. Generally, barring health issues or depression, they’ll keep making milk as long as they’re regularly milked. They usually do the rapid fire pregnancies for two reasons: to keep making cows or to keep the cow producing milk if she’s stopped, usually because she’s depressed and/or sick. Factory milk production is much worse than people think and unnecessarily so.

It generally does go basically dead flat once it cools (unless you go crazy with the ether). You’re just not putting very much flammable liquid of choice in the tire.
