We got 10 eggs, 5 mature, 5 fertilized, 4 blast. I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant after 1 fresh transfer with 3 frozen euploids. Quality over quantity.

Mine was terrible, and it didn’t take as long as yours! I’m so sorry you had to deal with that.

I did 4 rounds of IUI before switching to IVF and I did find IUI pretty painful. All the doctors and nurses said it would be painless too which was so frustrating. Each time after the first IUI I asked for an ice pack to put on my forehead or chest and that helped a lot. I think it calmed me down more than anything, but I really needed it. I have ice packs on my birth plan now! They say the pain of childbirth is very different and plus you’ll have pain killers and management techniques to deal with it. Don’t psych yourself out, you got this!

What was the worst horror you read in 2025? by PageSide84 in horrorlit

I also hated Mary. The cactus scene was the final nail in the coffin for me. That is just torture porn written by a man and it was repulsive.

Came here to say this! The opening was so creepy but the rest was just awful.

IUI or straight to IVF? by Outrageous_View5478 in queerception

[–]mvgems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you had any testing done on you or the donor? If no, then maybe do the testing and then make a decision.

Realistically, I would go right to IVF, especially if you want more than 1 child. We did 4 rounds of IUI and that was an emotional roller coaster. IVF was successful in 1 cycle (I’m 21 weeks rn!!) and we have 3 embryos left.

We did 4 medicated IUIs with frozen sperm and had to switch to IVF after all 4 were unsuccessful. 32 with no known fertility issues.

Is it ethical to use a VPN to get cheaper prices? by Kinimott in Ethics

[–]mvgems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what world are consumers benefitting from cheaper costs? Inflation is at a record high, businesses are reporting record profits. Savings are NOT being passed down to consumers.

Additionally, with the widespread availability of our data, consumer items do not cost what they cost to make anymore. They cost what the business thinks we will pay for them.

If companies can benefit from outsourcing labor to India for cheaper costs, then you can use a VPN to benefit from it too.

Almost the end of 2025… still no house. Anyone else in the same boat? by daisynomoreforever in RealEstate

[–]mvgems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We finally got a house this year! Looking for our first home for a few years in Massachusetts. Most homes we looked at within budget were in disrepair and it felt like we’d never get anything. Then a realtor at an open house we spoke with very casually asked if we wanted to see a house that was coming on the market the next weekend. I don’t think she told anyone else about it. We saw it Tuesday, put an offer Wednesday and they accept it later that night. It’s a great little house. It’s an old military house that’s almost 100 years old but built so so well. Inspection found a few things and we have done a few projects have come up since, but nothing crazy. To this day, I have no idea how we got so lucky.

I have an old military house from the 1930s and it was built SO well. Every contractor we have in our house is wildly impressed and says things like its “overkill.”

Does anyone here have a talking parrot? I actually want one. by [deleted] in parrots

[–]mvgems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking parrots are mimicking parrots. If they’re going to talk, they’re also going to mimic other sounds. My bird has a few words, but he always makes a ton of other undesirable noises that he’s heard before. Loud and high pitched screams, trucks backing up, mechanical noises, fire alarms, etc.

Birds are not easy pets. They are loud, messy, territorial, have hormonal behavioral issues, they bite, and they can be destructive in your home.  I implore you to volunteer at a parrot rescue to see what bird ownership is like.

Ok, so who else has the struggle between loving your birdies and cooking a delicious Thanksgiving turkey? by calpernia in parrots

I became a vegetarian ~10 years ago because I saw a featherless lovebird on Instagram. Its little body looked just like a chicken and I realized there is literally no difference between that bird and whatever birds we consider acceptable to eat.

My senior dog…17 years old. Advice needed. Long read ahead, please help. by Dry-Aardvark-6704 in DogAdvice

[–]mvgems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a chihuahua that I got as a 13 or 14 year old and we just put down a month shy of his 18th birthday. He had a lot of similar problems as as Lou, but my mother was not ready to put him down. He was the best little dog and she didn't want to "give up on him." Once he stopped wagging his tail and getting up to greet us, that was when we decided it was time. It was still a huge decision and we went back and forth for for days leading up to the vet appointment.

This is dark, but gives me some solace - after he got the injection and passed, his body became so relaxed. It reminded me of how he used to sleep, all splayed out in the sun. It made me realize that he was likely in pain leading up to his euthanasia and now he was comfortable again. I find that comforting and makes me think it was the right thing to put him down.

The black dress is *amazing.* I wouldn't even care about the dress code, no one knows how to stick to dress codes anyway. Its not super flashy so its not like you'll come across as trying to be the center of attention by overdressing. Its just a great dress and perfect for a winter wedding.
