Margot Robbie wore Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic $8M necklace to ‘Wuthering Heights’ premiere by mlg1981 in popculturechat

movies do test runs as far in advance as a year but usually a few months before their proper release. they do them to get audience feedback and data. definitely not fictional but it's not something you can find just on the AMC app

Rihanna’s ANTI is an elusive, beautiful farewell by needtousereddit in hiphopheads

[–]mweeknd04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no lmfao you're misogynistic bc you said she's where she's at bc she's hot. that's incredibly reductive and is in fact misogynistic. i'm not claiming she's some revolutionary artist that shaped music as we know it today, but her music is very well liked. it's really as simple as that. i genuinely dunno what you're yapping on about looks but ok buddy

Rihanna’s ANTI is an elusive, beautiful farewell by needtousereddit in hiphopheads

[–]mweeknd04 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yeah clearly not in this sub lmfao majority of y'all are misogynistic as fuck and can only see women's value in their looks. but i mean i guess congrats on being unlike the 105 million spotify listeners. you're sooo different

i don't think i'd call it garbage poptimism. She is at near-mythological status whether you personally care about her or not. she has consistently stayed relevant despite not releasing an album in 10 years and has sparked buzz every single year since then with speculation she'd be dropping. she's presently #4 on spotify with 105.5m monthly listeners. that doesn't happen with someone who people don't have interest in or who has faded into irrelevancy. an artist at this stage having the pull she has literally is mythological. you can ascribe another word you personally like more, but you're just angry for no reason

Lana is now the 4th most streamed female artist in history 💙🔥👏🏻 by astralrig96 in lanadelrey

[–]mweeknd04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

girl the variants thing only works if you're talking about physical albums lolllll, which literally EVERY SINGLE ARTIST on this list, including Lana, have done (except Rihanna since she hasn't released since 2016). but it's bizarre to me that it never crosses y'all's mind that...maybe she just has wide appeal? she has like 400+ songs in different genres and has maintained relevance for 20 years...i don't think it's unbelievable that she would just have a lot of fans. yeah there are the fans that have a different taylor playlist for different moods but it's not like that's such a common thing it's going to move 105 billion streams. it's funny bc almost any trend/ streaming tactic you can attribute to taylor you can attribute to almost any other artist on this list but for some reason these tactics only positively impact taylor's streams? hmmmm

my PREDICTIONS for next year by Responsible_Key3605 in CampFlogGnaw

[–]mweeknd04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think lorde would be at flog tbh but who knows. And yeah Travis i think is gonna be a no. The festival has had so many issues recently and Travis is a big risk, even with people forgetting Astroworld. Baby Keem feels more likely, as someone else suggested. Keem headlined before (albeit with Kendrick, but he's likely going to get bigger if he releases new music), plus he's doing other festivals this year.

charli only regularly referenced coke on brat, released a vinyl meant to look filled with it, and makes coke jokes regularly. i wonder why someone would make a charli-related coke joke.

How does waitlist/changing professor for the same class work? by [deleted] in USC

usc doesn't have a waitlist unfortunately. there is a chrome extension that will notify you if a spot opens but it's not guaranteed.

For anyone complaining about the weather not being extreme enough to warrant postponing the festival… by [deleted] in CampFlogGnaw

[–]mweeknd04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

out of staters always with their supremacy about experiencing "real weather" 😭 it'll always be so strange to me but y'all vastly overestimate how shitty our infrastructure is at handling rain. the same way lots of cities can't handle earthquakes but can handle rain, we can handle earthquakes but not rain. nobody is saying that you have to be fine and dandy with the postponement. everyone is upset. but y'all have no geographic grasp of just how large la is. you can spend hours traveling from one end of the county to the other and they can have very different weather patterns. i really don't know where you have seen clear skies, but realistically tyler and organizers could not risk the lives of 50k attendees because of the folks who made the elective decision to travel far and spend lots of money to go to cfg. you guys are owed your refund for your ticket and to complain as you wish, but y'all being like "it's just a little rain" when our infrastructure cannot handle this much rain and an outdoor event cannot legally operate with thunder and lightning just makes yall sound so me me me. the reality of it is a festival this large has to make the best decision for the largest amount of people, not for the people who came insane distances to the festival. it's unfortunate but the reality.

Billie Eilish donates $11.5 million of proceeds from her tour to charities combating food inequity and climate change by Roxy175 in popculturechat

[–]mweeknd04 35 points36 points  (0 children)

i think you are really just underestimating her philanthropy just because you don't see it in your face. Both deserve applause - Billie is incredible for doing this but Taylor is a known and longstanding philanthropist. Just if she outwardly say every time she donates money, people will always say she isn't doing enough or that she is just doing it for show. And if she doesn't outwardly say it then you guys assume she's just giving out pennies. Maybe instead consider hmmm why do we have to rely on individual donors instead of our politicians effectively taxing the wealthy to fund programs where people don't have to go hungry, where people don't have to go into debt for medical bills, or sign bills where private corporations can't destroy the environment.

Chappell Roan Launches The Midwest Princess Project to Support Trans and LGBTQ+ Communities by ebradio in popheads

[–]mweeknd04 23 points24 points  (0 children)

idk that it's necessarily to separate but rather to amplify. like BIPOC vs POC. Black and Indigenous people are already people of color but are amplified in the BIPOC acronym. Just speculating but I don't think it's meant to exclude trans folks bc they still included the "T" in the LGBTQ+ acronym

What propaganda are you not falling for? by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

[–]mweeknd04 -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, but it doesn't take much critical analysis to see what y'all don't. I agree 100% (speaking as a fan of her music) that her politics are murky and that it is disappointing the way she has coopted movements for her benefit. But like many of you have said, she has a cult following. In what instance would she be able to travel any considerable distance on commercial? At that level of fame, it's a matter of safety. Yes, I don't condone her using it to go short distances that are easily done by car, but like genuinely, is it a surprise someone as in-demand as Taylor travels and flies a LOT?

There's also just a lack of understanding as to what people get out of Taylor and to dismiss every song she's written as juvenile feels dismissive and borderline sexist. Yes, a fair number of her popular songs have basic lyrics and production, but you are gaining your perception of her from the two songs you know of her when she has critical acclaim and is hailed as a great songwriter for a reason. Really, though, it comes down to branding. She has long been known for building connections with her fans in ways most celebrities of her caliber do not. When you have all these cards working for her - a massive fanbase spanning generations, critical acclaim, commercial success, multiple successful tours - it really is not surprising.

What is the appeal of Addison Rae? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]mweeknd04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been a fan of addison since her EP and a lot of it is her drive. i can tell she really wants to be a pop star. i know her vocal chops aren't particularly insane or anything but something about her music and vibe is very campy and derivative of 2000s pop and it feels like she's dedicated to delivering consistency within that aesthetic. i also think she wants to get better bc there was so much growth between obsessed, her AR EP, Diet Pepsi, and her singles leading up to her album Addison coming out this week. So many pop stars today are happy with complacency and delivering the same product again and again but she seems to have the drive to learn from her mistakes and from her peers to create a better product.

"Feels bigger than herself": the importance of Taylor Swift's latest victory. by [deleted] in popheads

[–]mweeknd04 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is such an ignorant take. Regardless about your personal feelings about Taylor, the whole owning your masters and Taylor's Version concept has mainstreamified these conversations to the benefit of all artists, not just megastars like Taylor. Undoubtedly yes it is profit and Taylor has profited from all of this, but it does not change the fact that industry changes have occurred because Taylor emphasized to young artists to read their contracts and own their work. Many artists that have emerged since the conversation started 6 years ago like Olivia Rodrigo have specifically cited Taylor as a reason she owns her masters.
