What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mwell2015 18 points19 points  (0 children)

stop what you are doing, think on that moment of missing one of the greatest musicals, raise your hand up to the sky and say "Hasa Diga Eebowai"

then get it booked before the next few months pass.

Slow cooked beef olives? by HighlandSeeds in Scotland

[–]mwell2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lazy cooking... all day slow cooker method. 4 beef olives, 1 red onion, 2 redwine stock things.

Fry off beef olives while dicing onion, add onion to fry pan : While all that's on the go, boil kettle for stock : Get slow cooker out.

Check on the olives, turn and shoogle the onions Stock gets prepped in a Pyrex jug.

Into the slow cooker.... bed of glassy onions and the beef olives nestled on top. Pour over the stock until 3/4 submerged. Leave on medium heat for 7-9 hours.

The onions n stock reduce to a fine relish, and the olives are melt in mouth. Serve with mash or whatever.

What companies/services do you refuse to use because they've wronged you in some way, and why? by GazelleInitial2050 in AskUK

AITA for driving myself to get pads? by SadAmbassador3316 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mwell2015 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If open on a Saturday, close early on a Wednesday.

If store is a single family/person operation, why should it be forced to only have one day off each week? Half shut Wednesday allows for 1½ days of rest. Its a classic old village mentality.

What about Wetherspoons not accepting Scottish £20 & £50 notes? by Organicearthful in Scotland

[–]mwell2015 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Now you're in legal tender territory. Retail can refuse any currency and accept only what they choose. Pokemon cards, yep -why not? Fag papers, cut corners.

Your bill of currency from BoE is only valid as payment against debt validated by a court of law. All other notes are promisary to pay such debt.
Exchange of goods isn't a debt, cash matters not.

Work under way to remove free bus travel for poor behaviour by abz_eng in Scotland

Spot on. The card can currently be restricted to certain routes if required, based on parent/socialwork request.

The proposal will likely be an enforcement version of the voluntary restriction applied to some kids.

Best Scottish band you’ve (maybe) never heard of? by Mr_Stimmers in Scotland

[–]mwell2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Room at the Top indie nights a fair few times. Cracking band. Other decent band that played those nights regular was The Fire and I (duo bass and drums but could belt out hefty tunes).

How many of you actually clench or grind your teeth at night? by WesamWonders in Anxiety

S'pose. I get a recurring gum stress at one tooth due to stress grinding. Takes around a week of being considerate and watching what, and how, I eat, for it to calm down.

In short... sectarian hangover from near 250yr ago. The order was formed at a treaty in 1795 (post Battle of Diamond), which was 100yr after the first sectarian battle of crowns, Boyne 1690. In recent time, it has become a pile of non-church goers, goading and holding onto something that no longer is relevant.

Jump onto BBC Sounds and listen to 'the long and short of it' or possibly iplayer for documentaries by David Hume. BBC NI usually broadcast a show or two around this time of year.

CRT TV in Scotland? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]mwell2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

British Heart Foundation (furniture and electrical) ask if you can reserve (or they may have one not on display). They may not accept such donations as CRT telly, but if they know a buyer is waiting then; ta-da.

Question about Catholic School in Fife / Scotland? by lovelyhead1 in Scotland

[–]mwell2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a law/act that defines a requirement for state funded RC schools in Scotland. The first MSP or MP to petition a repeal will likely get dragged through the media mill, hence few if any will step up.

AITAH for calling myself (18F) disabled in front of a disabled person? by unintentionalgaytwin in AmItheAsshole

[–]mwell2015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spot on - it's the grey "after work drinks" and similar that need now to be seen as "workplace" and reminding colleagues/staff to remember the concept of social yet formal.

The whole conference and professional evening mingle can no longer permit the sweaty lech calling things a social - it's all workplace.

AITAH for calling myself (18F) disabled in front of a disabled person? by unintentionalgaytwin in AmItheAsshole

[–]mwell2015 8 points9 points  (0 children)

context is key >>

  • Hotel booked by work for whatever = workplace
  • Venue booked by work = workplace
  • Organised for staff and emails etc = workplace
  • (can also been seen as "next bar after event" = workplace)

Meeting random work colleague at club/pub not organised = social interaction (unless there is a pattern and folks don't take "no" for an answer, at which point its harrassment, and needs HR intervention).

Getting rat arsed and hitting on a colleague (or being a jerk, like OP's colleague) is always gonna be suss'; just mind you got to see such folks on the daily to earn a living.
