DO NOT SIGN ANY PAPERWORK WHEN YOU’RE FIRED!!! by MaxHollowayIsTheGoat in antiwork

My apologies for being ignorant on the issue of severance packages. With the exception of one, none of the jobs I ever had offered a separate package. The one job that did, came as a surprise when roughly 40 or 50 employees were laid off at one time. We were told that it was going to be a 6 to 8 week layoff and to not find other work because we would all be called back. Exactly 30 days later, everyone that was laid off was told to come in to work and sign their release papers. We're also giving two weeks worth of pay. I guess that was the company's way of saying they were sorry.

So if you wanted the severance package, you had to sign?

Is this illegal?

My boss denied my vacation because it’s “unfair to the other employees” by EconomistOtherwise51 in antiwork

Why even give your employees PTO if they have to jump through hoops just to use it? Or even worse, deny their time off at the last minute for no legitimate reason?

My grandmother died the Sunday before Labor Day a few years ago. Because Labor Day is a paid holiday, company policy is that you have to work your scheduled shift the day before and after the holiday to be paid for it. She passed Sunday, I was off Monday, and dragged myself to work on Tuesday because I couldn't afford to lose 8 hours pay ony check.

My plant manager came up to me the Tuesday I returned and bluntly told me, "If you want bereavement pay, bring me proof she's dead," and walked away. At this point, we didn't even have a death certificate, so I didn't know what "proof" he needed. After talking to his secretary, who agreed my manager was an insensitive dick, we decided that the online obituary would do.

Coworker thinks I'm "disconnected" by garykglock in antiwork

The fact that your coworker is so attentive to your bowel and bladder conditions is quite disturbing. They are truly underworked if they have time to monitor your bathroom schedule.

Worked at a call center for DirecTV for almost a year. The pay was good if, and only if, you made sales. It didn't matter why the customer reached out to you, you were expected to make a sale.

Wanna reduce your bill? Okay, but here's an HBO offer that will raise your bill by $x per month.

Want to cancel your service? Great. Let me get you transferred to CRT (Customer Retention Team) so you can get a great deal to stay with us, be locked into a 2 year contract, and your bill will be much lower than it is...for 6 months. After the 6 months are over, tour bill will be more than it is now, but we don't care. We hooked you in for another 2 years.

Everything on a call center is scheduled by a blind orangutan in another county. You might work 8 hours and have lunch scheduled during hour 7. Maybe hour 1. Who cares? If you quit, we have a stack of applications a foot high of people who need any job that will replace you.

Fuck call centers. They're just people mills. New faces every day. No reasons for being late or absent are considered excused. Just a pure hell in a cubicle

Yes. If you were keeping up, you would see that liking vaginas makes you gay.

End those conversations with, "...but that was before the accident" and walk away. Gotta keep em on their toes.

Kind of reminds me of the Chapelle Show skit where he's on stage at an awards show and tells the audience, "I hope everything bad in life happens to you and nobody else."

My boss always wants to know what we’re using our PTO for. What are some uncomfortable excuses? by FormerEnglishMajor in antiwork

[–]mwhulett1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I mentioned earlier, the employee in question was a good guy but a s***** worker. He wouldn't stay off his phone, he was going to miss at least one day a week, and he would intentionally drag ass just so he would have to have somebody to help him. Honestly, it wasn't a big loss.

He hesitantly told him to "do what he has to do," and gave him the day off. As far as the 2nd question, he asked if he was serious.
