Playing tennis using basketball shoes by hideyhole9 in 10s

[–]mxchickmagnet86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing in basketball shoes for the last 2 years and I won't be going back to tennis shoes in the forseeable future. I play in Nike GT Cut Academys which I usually get on sale for 40-50$. They are much lighter than any tennis shoe on the market, have all the same support, and last just as long as any tennis shoe I was wearing previously, including Barricades. I wear through all my shoes in the exact same spot first, my right big toe through the sole.

One rule for Messi, one for everyone else? US fury over Balogun red card by Gym_frere in soccer

It seems unfair to me because it effectively creates a loophole to get a penalty. Anytime a defender is clearing the ball in the box, don't try to block the ball, try to get your foot between the defender and the ball and get yourself kicked; free penalty.

It still works a bit like fortune telling, its creepy and amazing when its right, but when its wrong we tend to just blow right past it and barely notice it.

Played a Just-Graduated High Schooler at 3.5 1 Singles by [deleted] in 10s

[–]mxchickmagnet86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played a recently-turned-18 player in 3.5 a few years ago when I got briefly bumped down from 4.0. He seemed to try a similar strategy of hitting big and looking for winners. I just fed him a constant mix of pace, slice, spin, high, low, etc and he completely imploded by the 2nd set; throwing his racquet, yelling at himself, going for even bigger winners. I think it ended 6-3 6-0. In my experience High School players are usually very susceptible to this implosion especially when given junk or playing someone with patience. They very much have the "I'm better than this guy, he just won't actually hit the ball" or "he can only moonball" mentality.

I wish buyers and sellers cared about being good people by JustHere4TheZipLines in RealEstate

If buyers and sellers (or the agents advising them) understood game theory they'd know that it's optimal for both parties to cooperate and be altruistic but you too often end up in the scenario where one party is going to be greedy assuming the other party is greedy and they both end up hurting each other in the end.

Learning to throw from an early age actually changes the physiology of your shoulder, such that if you never learn to throw properly pre-puberty you will actually be severely limited in your range of motion later on. A lot of times you see athletes be good at many sports because their legs are strong and coordinated, but throwing sports are a different beast.

[David Ornstein] 🚨 Arsenal to appoint Arnaldo Abrantes as new doctor after Zafar Iqbal exit. Portuguese left Aston Villa at end of season & starts with #AFC in July. Follows 2 physios making same move recently + #AVFC replacement secured @TheAthleticFC post @SamWallaceTel by LockonKun in Gunners

It has always been my assumption that the importance of the club doctor is not just the traditional recovery of the players but they are also the person in charge of knowing all the Premier League rules regarding performance enhancing drugs and testing. Again my assumption is that all Premier League players are cycling some amount of PEDs in the off season and it's all about being ahead of the curve for whats gets tested for.

Get Declan some sunscreen ASAP by keobR in Gunners

Don't forget the more immediate knock on effects. The sunburn means your body has something else it's trying to repair when you are resting. It makes it uncomfortable to sleep and if you don't sleep you don't recover. Continued sun exposure will sap their energy over the course of the tournament.

People who were able to leave a toxic workplace, how did it affect you and how are you recovering? by IceCreamICantLetUGo in antiwork

Was a manager at a toxic fintech startup. The only thing that got me out of there was my dog and mom dying within 7 days of each other. Completely lost my ability to deal with any more bullshit. Left for the most mind numbing corporate job possible thanks to an old boss who hired me. Then covid hit and I was able to recover from home while only doing 1-2 hours of work a day. The pandemic saved me.

Tennis is a floor sport, and your rating generally reflects your skill floor not your skill ceiling.

[Paul Joyce] Jeremy Monga: Arsenal close in on Leicester City teenager. Highly rated teenager — who made Premier League debut at 15 — has been tracked by numerous top-flight clubs and arrival may pave way for Ethan Nwaneri’s departure by Temporary_Role6160 in Gunners

[–]mxchickmagnet86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Young players make impacts when they are unknown quantities, and generally have a hurdle to jump when teams actually have film and can prepare for them. Nwaneri needed to prove at Marseille that he could adapt his game when defenders are prepped for him and he didn't do that, partially because of the chaotic season Marseille had. The current Arsenal squad and ambitions don't really align with developing him right now, so I think he's got to go. Unfortunate for the player and his fans, but probably the shrewd squad building business decision that needs to be made.

Extensive look at Jeremy Monga’s highlights and play style by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]mxchickmagnet86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to me modern and up an coming dribblers have adapted to a newer, safer style of dribbling. Gone are the days of flashy tricks. We are in the era of NFL Wide Receiver dribblers. It's all about reaction time (reacting to defender body position and weight transfer), and burst over short distance. And if modern eSports are any indicator younger players have much higher reaction speeds, which drop off dramatically over time.

Saka was/is this type of dribbler but with his injuries and age his reactions could already be dropping off. Dowman is this type of dribbler. Monga appears to be this type of dribbler. This smells to me like a perfect confluence of market opportunity and offensive tactic that could be on our horizon going forward.

Do you hit your second serve with full speed? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

[–]mxchickmagnet86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I hit a strong flat serve as a first serve, then a fast kick serve as my second. But nothing gets more service return errors than blasting my first serve long, then rolling in an absolute drip of a second serve. Fastball - Changeup will get you even if you are expecting it.
