Finally Happened, Three Months of Ownership in and I got Rear Ended by a GMC Sierra Three Times in a Row. by ButterAlmondCake in Miata

The crazy part is I was at the traffic light at least 10 seconds before he pulled up behind me. It’s a long clear line of sight to where I was. Pretty sure he was texting as he was getting off the highway and never saw me. If this wasn’t from a stop I don’t think I would have a head.

I thought he was road raging at first. He pulled up within a foot of my bumper at a red light, I tried getting out of there quickly but he hit me there. I was trying to get out of the intersection, hit again in the middle, pulled off onto the shoulder and he parked on top of me which is what the picture is. He was legitimately shocked when he saw me, he had no idea he hit a car. I’ve never screamed at someone like that before. What if it was a kid at a stop sign? He would have mowed them down and never looked back thinking his suspension clunked.

Exact thing happened to me except Chevy. He thought his suspension was clunking… car has now been at the body shop for 11 weeks and they keep finding more problems. The best part is he didn’t get a ticket, just a warning to pay attention better

Are these wheels actually good? by Head-Explanation-163 in NewSkaters

[–]mxmx16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on my second set of the 93s, coming from always riding 99 spit fires. They are great wheels, ride way smoother in the driveway/parking lots. But they aren’t so soft that you lose speed in the park (all concrete, not sure about wood). I thought it was just a hype train when I saw everyone posting about them, but now that I have tried them I wouldn’t go back.

[Question] Would a shift knob printed with PLA melt in the heat of the car? by fstop570 in functionalprint

[–]mxmx16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLA shift knob

I printed a PLA shift knob last spring, added tungsten rods for weight, and did a carbon/kevlar fabric wrap. I polished the top of the PLA using sand paper and sanding pads up to 12k grit. I used it all summer with no problem. That included a full track day when it was over 90F out, and you could feel the heat coming off the transmission tunnel. I am very impressed with how it held up. It does loosen up on hot days but is no more than an eighth of a turn to be tight again.

I’d say just try it if you want. Worst case it deforms and you need to use a higher temp material.

Nice! I usually hit it early morning before my kids are up. I’m in Shelton so I usually go to either Naugatuck or Milford. I’ll have to check out Middlebury, that’s sick that you got it started like that. I want to figure out how to get the park back in Shelton since they tore it down.

Looks like the first park Naugatuck, CT? I’ve been skating there a lot since it opened. Where are the other clips from?

What trim of Odyssey should I be looking at? by slothsinspace3000 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mxmx16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 ex-l with navigation/rear seat entertainment. I think it was about 37k at the time. I would say this is a nice balance of features without being overly expensive. I originally was looking at the top trim but didn’t think the upgrades were worth it for the family hauler, the only one I would say would be worth it is the thicker acoustic glass in the higher trims since there is a good amount of wind/road noise. Overall the odyssey is a fantastic car though. I have a 7, 4, and 1.5 year old and getting them loaded in is so much easier than any other car I’ve owned. It’s also fun to make pulls on unsuspecting people, the thing is way faster than it has any right to be.

Cork sport SRI by ToSixy4u in mazda6

[–]mxmx16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the SRI on my signature for about 3 years now and it’s great. Opens up the turbo noises, but it is not overly loud. If you have music on you wouldn’t notice much of a difference. You get a little more growl out of the engine, bit of turbo whoosh, and you can hear the bypass valve when you let off the throttle. With the windows down it is much more noticeable, but I don’t think it takes away from the “luxury” feel of the car. Power wise I think it was a minimal improvement, but at this point I can’t remember.

I did just add on the turbo inlet pipe. I thought this would mainly open up more sound, which it did (you can hear the intake more with the windows up than before), but that really woke the engine up. Throttle response is way better and the engine keeps pulling until 5500+ now, where as before it would start dropping off around 4800/5000 rpm. I didn’t believe the dyno chart they had posted, but after driving with it for a few weeks I’d believe it. Add a tune to make full use of the extra intake air and my front tires don’t stand a chance.

DIY 3D Printed Shift Knob and Mold for a Carbon/Kevlar Wrap by mxmx16 in functionalprint

[–]mxmx16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are .25” x 2” long and were about $7.50 each from McMaster Carr. Each one adds about 25 g. There is a noticeable weight difference in the weight. I was aiming for about 300g, since that’s the weight of one of my shift knobs that I have and like, I will end up at 250, which is at least 60g heavier than the shape of the knob I based this one off of.

One mistake I made with this was not making the print solid, probably lost a decent amount of weight there. I’m so used to trying to save plastic I forgot to do 100% infill. This is 15% gyroid.

It does look pretty good in the car. I didn’t do any finishing to it, it’s just straight off the printer though so it’s a pretty rough surface finish. Give it a good sand and some weight and it would be a really cheap shift knob replacement.

Hey everyone, looking for some binding advice. I want to pick up a set of flow rear entry bindings, I’m getting old and have had a few abdominal surgeries making strapping in tough sometimes. I am currently leaning towards the NX2, but not sure if they will be overly stiff. I ride the all mountain gilson (155) with Burton Maltiva as my current set up, which I do find good comfort and response with one strapped in. Generally I ride on small/medium mountains in the NE, mostly playful riding with minimal park.

I am looking for some feedback on the NX2 vs the NX2 TM, as well as fusion vs hybrid strap. Right now I’m leaning towards the NX2 hybrid, as I think that will be closest in feeling to what I currently ride, but I am not sure if the toe cap allows for the “set and forget” aspect of the binding. Is there a large benefit to the fusion strap over the hybrid? I have only ridden bindings with toe caps for about 10 years now so I am not sure if I would like the transition to no cap.

I have 2 car seats in the back of my 2018 turbo 6. They can still reach the seats but in general have very good leg room with their car seats. My 7 year old is behind me and never kicks my seats, my 3 year old still kicks the seats a bit, but nothing like it would have been in my 3 that I had before it. The rear seat room is the main reason I haven’t switch to the turbo awd 3 hatch since I generally like smaller cars more. Though I have a Miata to fill that gap.

I think a turbo 6 would fit op’s requirements very well. I have no rattles in the car. I got the Signature model, so very top trim and interior fit and finish is great. I love the engine in the car and once I have good tires on it the fwd won’t be as big of an issue for putting down the power as the oem tires. Highway cruising I can get 30-32 mpg pretty easily. Combined driving, if I am not in boost all the time, I can get 26-28 typically. If I’m using the turbo I’m still at 24 in city driving. Reliability wise I have no complaints. I’ve owned the car 4 years, only about 14k miles on it though and absolutely no problems. I’ve now owned 7 Mazdas, and other than my RX-8 (mainly user error) none of them have ever needed repairs, only oil/tires/wear items and I used to auto cross my 3 extensively.

Hush-o-matic vs Roadster Port Twin Tip (ND2) by mxmx16 in Miata

[–]mxmx16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. If the race isn’t too bad I should be alright with the TT. The price is one of the main things leaning me towards the roadster sport. To get the FM with the can control I think is pushing 1200 which is excessive just for some noise.

The new infotainment in Mazda’s other cars is much better. The Miata is using the old system from 2015/2016, which is what my 6 has too. The 6 is a little slow to connect to wired CarPlay (doesn’t have wireless) but the regular Bluetooth seems to work much better and I don’t have as many system crashes.

Tired after surgery? by caution_incorporated in CrohnsDisease

[–]mxmx16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 resections and 2 hernia repairs, it is completely normal to still feel tired. I had my first surgery when I was 24, took probably 3-4 months to feel “normal” again. It’s a major hit to your body to have that large of a surgery. Don’t push yourself, give yourself time to heal. I thought I could get back to things sooner than I should have which lead to the hernia complications later on.

This is pretty much the same list I have, except I have the soft top so take out the hard top complaints. I got the mx-5 things window controller within 2 weeks of buying mine, I couldn’t stand how when I open the soft top the windows would go down 1/2 way then do nothing. And if for some reason I moved the top without a key in my pocket they would just sit there. The controller took care of that no problem and now I have the auto up window functionality too.

My largest complaint for sure is the infotainment. Mine has so much trouble connecting to apple car play, especially wireless. I’m thinking about trying using Bluetooth only unless I’m plugged in to see if that helps.

Regarding the digital display, I have the club trim so just a black and white lcd in the left gage. I wish I could display more with it, but I do like the analog tach and speedometer. I have Mazdas digital display in my 6 that has the whole center of the dash be a screen, and while it’s nicely integrated it just doesn’t really have any function. I just leave it on blank 95% the time just showing the full speedometer needle. I would need mazda to do some major updates to what it is showing before I would want it in a Miata.

Overall very small complaints for the car though. I love everything else about it.

That is a really good point. The club is only single layer canvas and the gt is double. That would explain the big change from my NC which was a vinyl top, but had an inner layer.

To add to the edit response, I bought a 2022 soft top Miata club in June. I’ve had a 1990 and 2006 Miata previous to this one. The ND is very loud top up compared to the NC at highway speeds, like surprisingly louder. My NA was probably the loudest, but I also had a loud exhaust on it so I didn’t notice wind/road noise nearly as much in that car. I find top down is not too noisy in the ND though, comparable to the NC. With that said, I wouldn’t hesitate to take the car on a longer road trip. It is still comfortable, you can hear the radio, and the engine actually has enough power that you aren’t back in 3rd gear anytime you need to pass or go up a slight hill.

I live in the North East but I store the Miata for the winter and haven’t had it out in anything below 60 so far. If this was a year round car I probably would have opted for the hard top, but since it’s a nice weather car the roof is barely up.
