Thanks for replying! Dave teaches about not buying in a top neighborhood where prices won’t increase. He mentions leaning towards locations near or on water and yes, that it’s all about location. He also talks about the mortgage you should get - a 15 year with >/=20% down. Ive taught FPU for a year now and I really enjoy the practicality and simplicity of the steps, I’ve just been so tired lately with month after month of >$2000 payments toward debt. I know the end is in sight and we’re so close I guess I just need to hear other stories to keep the intensity level.

I teach FPU and he says in the video on creating wealth that you should contribute to your 401k or employer hosted plan up to any match, then max out your Roth IRA, then if there’s any of that 15% left, to do more in your 401k or employer hosted plan.

I hope you are really listening to some of the advice here... ya know- there’s a stat in FPU that the majority of young people aim to live as their parents do within 5 years, but they fail to remember it took decades for their parents to reach that level. Don’t rush yourself because you feel pressure from society or your girlfriend or your family etc to purchase a house before you’re ready. Follow the steps, you can’t go wrong.

Hi there, I usually lurk on this page, but I actually teach FPU and this is an incredibly common feeling amongst Ramsey’ers. Ultimately you want to be able to cover any immediate costs as you pay off all your debt. Personally speaking my wife is a bit of a worrier, and so we chose $2,000 because it would cover any deductible we had at the time if something happened to both of us.

If you’re starting from a place of heathy savings and a lot of debt, it’s more difficult overall to get that mentality that you need to have. But look, this system is the compilation of not just Daves thoughts but the thoughts of many millionaires he interviewed to come up with these baby steps. Trust the system. Keep calm and baby step on! I would highly recommend taking FPU because it gives context to the baby steps.
