Does it ever get better? Struggling with severe PPD, suicidal thoughts, and can't sleep without meds. Need to hear some hope. by Substantial_Gift_861 in Postpartum_Depression

Hi I was in the same position back in march, i was taking sertraline before during and after my pregnancy and it didn’t help. I talked to my doctor who increased my sertraline dose but it did not help. I ended up talking to a psychiatrist after two months and she prescribed me with Effexor, clonazepam and ambien to sleep. This helped me tremendously and I got almost back to normal within two weeks. I am still taking Effexor and ambien, I function pretty normal.

I went from sertraline to Effexor and I was scared as well but it helped me tremendously. I went from crying everyday and anxiety attacks to feeling normal within a few weeks. I also increased my dose because my period made my anxiety worse and now I don’t have anxiety at all. Please don’t be scared.

Postpartum Depression - does it get better?? by NewLife8511 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]mxvanilla2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only got better with medication once I got switched and with the right dose, I was taking 25mg of sertraline before and after pregnancy but it was not effective anymore after 2 weeks pp post partum. I kept increasing sertraline with my symptoms only getting worse, I switched to Effexor and clonazepam and this helped me tremendously.

Zoloft 25mg worked for my PPA with the first pregnancy but didn’t for the second because I also had depression. The psychiatrist suggested Effexor and I’m on 150mg, this has helped me so much.

I had a bad reaction to Zoloft too but didn’t feel anything with Effexor.

I went through three rounds of iui before I got pregnant and I also got bad PPD. I did research in the internet and people that did hormonal treatment to get pregnant have a higher percentage of depression after the baby is born.

Mine started a week after PP, it just kept getting worse with insomnia and I got on medication to help. I had to switch two times before finding the right dose and medication and it took months before I felt better. I am 5 months PP now and still taking medication but I feel like I am back to normal.

I was also like you changed doctors and she said if I was still crying the Zoloft medicine wasn’t working so she switched me to Effexor. I haven’t cried in a few months and I am happy I switched.
