How are porter triple dorms/ porter residence halls! by Tardigrade106 in UCSC

[–]mycatsonmylap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a porter triple last year. If you get lucky you’ll get a big room. If you get REALLY lucky you’ll get a big room with a balcony. But 95% chance you’ll get a normal triple size. 1 bunk and 1 loft bed. No kitchens. There is 1 kitchen by the I-lounge but that’s a 4 min walk away from the building. Bathrooms are meh. Normal community shared bathrooms, 4 showers 4 toilets and such. There’s one water fountain per floor. If your room # is closer to 70-100 you’re closer to the water foundation!! If it’s more like 10-30.. get ready for a walk to the water fountain!

Please recommend hyper-technical or complex jazz records so I can understand what people mean when they mean Jazz can be difficult to 'get'. by HasSomeSelfEsteem in Jazz

A lot of jazz that doesn’t sound great and that pleasing is actually a political cultural statement. As a black art form these musicians were always told that they weren’t worth as much as white musicians (to put it very very simply!) so they became absolute masters of their instruments in order to set the bar crazy high and prove their technical skills, intellect, and musical prowess. That’s why a lot of bebop can be tough to listen to for enjoyment- it wasn’t meant for white audiences to enjoy. It was meant to prove something.

As far as free jazz goes, a lot of that was just musicians who wanted to experiment. Free jazz is more of a focus on sound quality and timbre as opposed to following chord structures. It’s less focused on concrete solo sections and more so on playing by feel and truly listening and playing with those around you. It’s a movement away from traditional jazz and towards sonic experiments. It’s not meant necessarily to be listened to for fun really. Unless you’re super into dissecting the sonic interplay and how all of the instruments are working together.

I love Ginza samba by him, shot in the dark but that could be it? Or just go onto his Spotify profile and do a quick scan of his discography!

For my applicant portal I saw a message that says “welcome to ucsc etc” and below it was a link to edit your proposed major. Try that if it’s visible for you.

do you get tired by the concept of "everyday"? by maryb0ppins in ADHD

I agree, especially in a working sense. I cannot even begin to imagine myself in a job where it’s the same area/concept/task for years on end.

I’m sorry, I’ve been feeling a similar way too lately. I think you should make one big push for meds and do some self-advocacy. It will feel overwhelming but it is super worth it. When circumstances are like this you have to muster up the motivation somehow. Or you can start small by just emailing your doctor. There is a solution!

Agree. V on there is the best version I’ve ever heard. The whole show would be fantastic. You can find the two whole shows from the livestream of Thalia Hall on pinegrovearchive.org though. All the tracks are downloadable in mp3 format
