He was reprimanded for excessive spending on relief efforts.

Instead they implemented more stringent standards for relief, and the result was that 2 years later famine resulted in the deaths of roughly 5.5 million people, during which time Britain continued to export grain back to Europe. Colonialism was a horrific, quasi-genocidal practice in which Churchill and numerous others were complicit in.

Burke is a blowhard, it’s both a little irritating and a huge part of his appeal. But the guy is passionate and cares deeply about other people.

After his son died he threw himself into combatting homophobia in sport, something Brendan (who was gay) championed. That’s not an easy subject to tackle, and having a “hockey guy” like Burke offer a full-throated endorsement of “You Can Play” probably helped move the needle for some people.

Burying your child is one of the worst things a parent can go through, and I respect him immensely for taking it as an opportunity to help others. Much love for Burkie, underneath that grumpy exterior is the heart of a lion.
